RE: £1m Scamera 'Not For Casualty Reduction'

Anti skid surface, BS!
I haven't seen many other surfaces on the roads in this country apart from tarmac, oh yes they paint it pretty colours and put lines all over it but no other surface.
Unless they mean anti-skid by leaving the pot holes in the road because and I quote "more anticipated poor weather" I wrote the frigging email in March!

Maybe the solution would be to burn the councillors and not the camera. Or even better set the councillor alight and throw him on the camera :P
Seriously though, councillors and local authorities are civil servants, so their actions decisions and evidence or reasoning by which these decisions are reached should be equally transparent and subject audit and review should they be found to be fraudulent or erroneous (since councillors are suposed to be working in the interest of the local electorate, not against their wishes, and certainly not in a way that seems to persecute them). I'm preety sure that if this was anywhere else in Europe they would be far more public outrage from the local public, and that damn camera would be turned into either a colender or turned into a tribute to the Olympic torch.

Council install camera - Cost £50,000 plus
Council install speed limit signs - Cost £24,000 plus
Police install film in camera - Cost £2,000
Speeding motorists or Red-Light Jumping motorists Detected by camera - Cost £negligible
Police recover and develop film - Cost £1,000
Police process offences and issue tickets - Cost £1M - £1.5M
Council maintains camera - Cost £15,000
Motorist pays FPN - Cost £proportion of Police costs above; Income to HM Treasury £60.00; Income to Council and Police £0.00
Motorist takes Speed Awareness Course - Cost to motorist varies between £60 to £120; Income to council varies between £0.00 to small part of the revenue; Income to Police varies between £0.00 to small part of the revenue
Where is the fiscal incentive for the council? Someone better tell them very soon.

They have found it! Today's Bournemouth Echo reports that the cost of Dorset Speed Awareness Courses is set to rise to £100 from the current £70. The number of Drivers expected to attend the course in 2010 - 2011 is 20,000. Income generated from the course £1,850.000. Council install speed limit signs - Cost £24,000 plus

The income generated from course fees created a surplus of £500,000 last year and with the rise in the fee the total surplus next year will top £1,000,000.
Dorset police said that "some of the extra money will be spent on operational duties. The course fee was set to make a proportionate contribution to road safety policing costs".
In other words the police /Partnership have found a way of ensuring they get the money and not the Treasury as per the old camera rules. The Council's gain because they are members of the partnership and it makes up for the drop in Government funding next year.

Christmas is coming, and whilst not in my area this scammera definitely deserves a present. Better not to send it something inappropriate, so here are some suggestions.
1. Angle grinder.
2. Paintball gun.
3. Petrol filled car tyre. (Will entail a visit next day to
attach bunch of red roses.)
4. Missile
5. Visit of Land Rover with chain for love-in session.
6. Black paint elimination of white marker bars on road.
(Renders evidence inadmissable?)
If people argued about speeding (sic!) tickets demanding photographs and proof of camera accuracy the system would soon clog, up especially when motorist was harrassed to pay up and then had to make a ccmplaint to their Chief Constable..........

There is always the option of not responding to the fixed penalty notice and waiting to see if you get a court summons. If everyone did that I bet they wouldn't have the staff or resources to be able to process all the court summonses and would do nothing to follow it up. I had exactly this experience myself in another county. Call their bluff!

I went a step further and wrote back asking to see evidence as 'i couldn't remember who was driving on that day' thinking they'll just think fk that and get on with doing something useful. But no, after about a couple of months, when I'd forgotten about it, I got a picture of my ugly mug at the wheel recklessly speeding at 70mph in a 50 on a motorway late at night with no other traffic around (not road works - just approaching the severn crossing it drops to 50 I now know!). I was obviously about to cause a major pile up causing death and destruction by my careless behaviour!
Dam the dangers of using cruise control when you dont need to get anywhere fast.

Apparently they burn quite well! This camera has been dubbed "Greed on Green" and there is a very active campaign being run by Dorset Speed, led by Ian Belchamber who is a beacon of common sense fighting against the Dorset Safety Camera Partnership. Who they are in partnership with I don't know - it's certainly NOT the voting public (who pay their wages), but it might be Dick Turpin. Unlike me, Ian hasn't been caught by this camera, he is just fighting for justice because despite what the DSCP say, this camera is nothing less than a cash cow. I have been quite vocal in the campaign, but unfortuately we are dealing with a group of people who are incapable of differentiating between fact and fiction. I was even accused of not being a law abiding citizen BY A SODDING MP, OF ALL PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!
By the way, I'd love to show you the picture of me being caught on camera - it is a four lane road with not another car, house, shop, factory or anything else of consequence within 100 metres of the camera.
