It seems that we have somewhat of a problem brewing with our "neighbours".

We have 4 cars at my parents house and two regular visitors (my girlfriend and my sister's boyfriend). In order to fit all the cars in recently I have been parking my old Golf over the road, next to the kerb by a T junction. There are the sides of two corner houses facing it, each with long six foot high fences eitherside, so it's not really visible to anyone from the ground floor of their homes.

Now the owners of the corner house have started to object and came round my parents house and said "we don't want to fall out with you but park your car outside someone else's house, not ours". Now this house has a dropped kerb entrance on one side into a driveway and a concreted front garden which can accommodate 2 cars, both of which they don't want to use.

Fast forward to today and my sisters boyfriend parked his car there in a space big enough to fit 3 cars, they have purposely parked both their cars bumper to bumper next to his, blocking him in. That is going to prove very interesting come the morning when he needs to go to work.

Should they fail to move them, what is the best course of action, is it a matter the police will deal with?

People do get protective about the space outside their house especially if they keep it tidy by parking their own cars in the drive.
Where's the nearest car park smile

They won't use either of their drives! There aren't any carparks nearbye. I used to park it outside an old boy's bungalow 2 doors up who was fine with it, or in his drive to keep it out of the way. The simple fact is I need to park it either on the road or on a verge somewhere and they don't like any cars being parked there.

I kno wit doesnt solve the immediate problem but you wont get much sympathy from me from parking on the road
What about if you take 4 cars to a car park and bring one back?
It's not going to help much dinging their doorbell at 5am to see if they can help you by moving one, but if they've parked that close what else are you going to do?

I think if you keep ringing the door bell at 5am and wake the house up, they aren't going to try the same trick again.

I'm not sure what you mean about taking one to a carpark? There's not a public carpark within 3 miles of my house. My VX220 is in the garage for most of the year, my Dad's car is on the drive and used every day, as is my sister's car.

Here's how it is at the moment, my sister's boyfriend parked in the middle between their two cars. When he parked there just the mondeo was there and he left ample space from it. Since then they've moved both cars to inch up close to it.

I see what you mean Muncher - not being helpful are they - they probably don't want it to become a permanent feature

It's a road. Roads are for getting from A to B. Car parks are for parking cars?

If everyone used the roads for parking, in the end we wouldn't be able to drive anywhere. In the dim and distant past we wouldn't think of parking in the road as everyone looked after their piece of road swept the pavements etc so it was tidy for everyone else

How many cars do we need per house?

Not helping OP predicament - the door bell has to be favourite

Tell them that you did and the 'someone else' said same thing. So it will be their turn again very soon.
It always amazes me that people think they own any part of the 'Queen's highway' and can dictate who parks where.

If I recall correctly nobody has the right to park on it at all unless the local authority has designated a space for that purpose.

On the one hand, people getting petty and thinking they own the parking on the highway annoy me. On the other, when we only had room to park two cars, we limited ourselves to that. Six cars for one house is taking the piss a bit if you can't park them on your own premises.

I see your point!
Two cars - one in front of each of theirs, and they won't be able to get either one out - or order up a skip!!

Pity your sisters boyfriend's car is not an old banger which might burst into flames at any moment!

It's only one car that isn't parked on the premises (my Golf), the others are visitors, which are very rarely here for more than half a day. I'll be making my trolley jack available tomorrow should he need to move one of the cars. Tomorrow for instance if they are still being as petty and won't unblock him I'll just have to leave the Golf outside the front of their house.

To get out of that, if it's a fwd car, can't you full lock left, handbrake on, and use wheelspin to get you out? A la http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lb1awXgoyQE.

So it's safe to assume you never park on the road then?

Maybe someone should indicate which bits of the road are not safe to park on, perhaps with a yellow line or two, and some appropriate signage??????

There really aren't enough rolleyes on the internets to show you what I think of your attitude/opinion....

I know what I'd do but it wouldn't help to mention it here. They wouldn't do it again.
