if everyone down your street had four cars and expected guests to park on the road it would be chaos
What about streets which consist of flats with no off street parking? 6-8 Flats to a block with anything between 0-4 cars to a flat. It works absolutely fine. If there is no space where you want to park, you park in the closest space available.
I can see what you are saying but around here the houses are victorian and georgian terraced houses with roads never designed for modern traffic, let alone parking and traffic. The roads effectively become very long one way streets which require two way traffic and no room for emergency vehicles and cars being constantly swiped by careless motorists - so no, it does not work fine at all in many cases.

Here is an example of it working fine:

Ideal? No. But everyone is in the same position in that street. It's not a case of Nimbyism. Emergency vehicles get through fine.

Let's GoogleMap your street and compare?

Could even consider freeing up one pavement for legal extra parking, wouldn't one pavement be sufficient, what do you think?

I'm not sure what the rules would be on foot access to the buildings, but if it was an issue, they could make the street one way. They don't have to because it's not. Everyone is in the same boat so all are considerate.

My point was that it does not make roads 'chaotic' and "impassable".

Why do I not think that is an example of it working fine wink
Love the extra parking space on the right - how long until that becomes the norm?

It's fine in the sense that it works. The road is navigable.

The parking on the right? As far as I'm aware, that is legal up here.

To the op I do hope you can find a peace with them, although I suspect from reading what sort of people they're like, that may never happen! Highly entertaining read!!

I hope I never have neighbours like that. I would revel in winding them up.

me too. I know a lot of people on here are saying don't let it descend into a war. but honestly, how much do you talk to your neighbours these days? I would just find it entertaining. especially as they are seem to be getting far more worked up about it than the OP.

bring it on I say

funnily enough, where I'm living now, we have a great relationship with our neighbours on both sides! I see them regularly in the street, chat about all sorts. Compare that with the neighbours directly above us - (we live in a converted house. the only one in our street I think) All I can ever muster is enough to politely acknowledge there existence, and even that pains me! Since they've moved in they've taken over! 4 cars, garage and driveway, garage full of fridges and dross. so 3 cars now take up all remaining spaces. which funnily enough is starting to lead to friction on our road. sad innit. oh yeah, and non stop DIY even in the evenings, i;ll get back from work and relax to the sound of BANG BANG or the melodic tune of a circular saw. at 9 o fking clock at night! and we've asked them to be a bit more thoughtful. Have realised they are the worse sort of people, the one's who'll smile happily to your face, but still ps off everyone. People either side have issues with them too! Un believable what some people are capable of. I want my old neighbour upstairs back, he had one car a V8 Aston, now that was noise I enjoyed! Funnily enough he invited me to Le Mans and to PistonHeads! : ) wonder if they read this .... : )

p.s Muncher your visual guide to this thread with smilies was epic!

Surely if you're the sort of person who 'revels in winding [people] up' you're no better than they are?

Muncher - just keep calling out the cops. They'll get sick of your neighbours' antics soon enough!

The neighbours described by OP are fking unreasonable tts. If I was in that situation I would see three clear choices-

1. Park elsewhere to avoid annoying them;
2. Park there as before and continue to annoy them;
Or,
3. Continue to park there as in (2); plus do so with a massive grin knowing that they are getting annoyed. Perhaps even park there every day automatically, encourage ALL visitors to park there and laugh as the 'for sale' sign goes up outside their house.

I wouldn't do the first one.

Fair enough.

I wouldn't be surprised if following 2. or 3. it might be you woken by the door bell at random times of the night wink

I can sleep through a nuclear war, so if they wish to wake up at various times of the night then that's up to them!

Except if you want to push a pram down the pavement on the right.

My Mum had neighbours a few years ago that had moved about 10 times in 12 years. They told my Mum they always seemed to have problems with the neighbours. Wonder what they told their new neighbours when they moved a couple of years later wink

If you mean parking on the pavement, I find that hard to believe it is legal, thout should not park on the pavement, its in the highway code somewhere, although a lot of drivers do it.

Nooo
Were talking about the OP's street. They bought their houses beause parking was off road. People dont like change. Would they be happy with their street changing to as in your link?
I would argue they bought their house because it had off road parking. They didn't buy the right to dictate how many cars belong to other houses and where they can and cannot legally park them.

I deleted that as I got fed up with arguing the same thing smile
You're either pro road or youre not
Roads are for free movement people goods services, getting from A to B access etc.
If everyone decided to use them as a car park as in your link we'd be in a right pickle.
Theyre supposed to be for public use, which means everyone not just those who've moved in next to them.
Anyway Ive posted that a few times now, some people have posted same, others prefer the car park angle.

We're doomed I tell you, we're doomed wink
