Which ones complaining, the house on the same side the cars are parked or opposite?

To be fair, in the second Google link, the parked cars appear to be slightly hindering access to both corner houses drives. It looks like the road is quite narrow and to be able to swing in/out they may have to do it from one way only.

Although what they've done is out of order, they may have a point from a neighbours point of view. Whilst you are making things better for you and your immediate neighbours this could be causing the corner houses grief. Where the cars are parked appears to be the closest on road parking for that house as the front is grass and too close to the corner for on road parking.

There are several schools of thought.

But here is my take.

People don't like change (I'm thinking of your neighbours).
They had what they perceived as "their space" before and it then started being used, and they are reacting (badly). And perception is everything (I know they had no legal entitlement)

As a neighbour we can either take a stance that says, "I'm right and the law says I'm right (you probably are right) and I have the right to park there"
or
"I'm going to may impinge on my neighbours previous use, and not just one day, but many days. Hmm, let's pop over with an xmas card and a bottle of wine and have a chat - see if we can explain and come to an arrangement"

I don't approve of their method or reaction.

BUT we need to find better ways of dealing with it than just the police as the first and last line. Too many cars, houses not designed for that number of cars and we are land poor in this country. Legal entitlement is all well and good, but to be honest, life is too short.

To sum up: no one can "win" in the long run from this, only bad feeling and a scant moral victory.

This is what happens on some estates. You can see from the photo that most people are keeping their cars out of the way and off the road. you only need one person to start parking in the road for people to start taking umbrage about how we cant get through like we used to and why cant they park off the road like everyone else. (This probably applies to Munchers neighbours who've put up a fence then park in the road outside it.)
The next thing that happens is someone begins parking in the road outside your house. This is particularly annoying as youve kept the space outside your house clear by parking on the drive
To stop this happening you begin parking in the street. See above for what the neighbours think.
The someone has to park outside someone elses house - and repeat above.

Before you know it you have a street that's barely passable with cars parked either side and no-ones happy, neighbours dont get on and the whole place degenerates.
Just because something is lawful doesnt mean it's a good idea.

God, some people are wkers.

Reminds me of the people who live over the road from my parents. Retired couple - Utter crazies.

They have three cars for two drivers, but not in a good petrolhead kind of way - two Micras and a Corolla all with really crap 'private plates'.

They have two separate garages and a driveway big enough for at least four cars, very possibly more.

There is a huge hedge in front of their house, which they grew for 'privacy', which means they can't even see the road.

And yet... they get very hot under the collar if anyone parks on 'their' bit of road, and will often park both Micras there together in order to prevent anyone else parking.

The Google link shows the 2 cars belonging to the corner house parked there, so they would be blocking their own driveway. As it happens, neither of those driveways are used, the gates are just kept locked. Since those images were taken the corner house has had their entire front garden concreted, with room for 2 cars but they are simply choosing not to use it, they want to park on the road instead.

As far as I'm concerned if their cars are parked there, that's fine, no problem, I'll park somewhere else. What I put up with is them saying they are "reserving" bits of the public road for their own use. To then deliberately block someone in and refuse to move it is just taking the biscuit.

Just normal people - see my post above. I've had visitors from other EU countries who are amazed how much on street parking we allow. As a tourist you only have to try taking a photo of an interesting street to see how many cars there are

Normal people? Really??

Not sure I see the relevance of what visitors from other EU countries think?

That's what anyone parking in the road does wink

It is and it's the beginning of armageddon
I don't know what you can do
- how would they like it if you did it to them when they parked outside your house?

They are quite clearly utter morons. No point in getting into this with them though.

I would wait for the police as I am sure they will have something to say to these people. But I would also tell them that you will move the car and park somewhere else in future. Life is to short to waste it in arguments with idiots.

Quite so. OP, correct me if I'm wrong but you have up to 6 cars at this house at one time? Did you mention how many are off road, or did I miss it? And your neighbours, having come round and mentoned it first, presumably seeing no change, are getting p'd off (ETA and acting like pratts). What else did you expect?

You can either escalate it as has been mentioned, or have a friendly chat with them. Up to you to decide option will leave you all happiest in 6 months time.

I live in a cul de sac with a similar situation to yours. Except, I don't live in the corner plot, I live one house up and the road is a lot narrower. We all manage to park without issue. If that's where they normally park irrespective of them having a drive, then you are not being neighbourly (not on my street anyway). If somebody started parking right outside your house would it cause you any grief?
They're probably saying they've just spent £thousands to have off road parking and maybe to tidy the place up a bit and people from up the road just park there now, why did we bother.

I am playing devils advocate here btw.

Like I said in my previous post, I don't agree with what they've done blocking you in at all, in fact they will probably get a bking from the BiB I would think.

Correct.

I think some people honestly belive they own the road in front of their house. Some apparently normal friends of ours have a neighbour who gives piano lessons. If anyone parks and waits outside their house (typically no other cars are parked in the road) they'll stand in their window and stare at them until they move.

They had parked on their drive but decided to stop and park there just to be awkward. If they were to park in front of their gate which they don't use you could fit 4 cars there, plus another 2 in their front drive with a further two in their back drive/garage. There's space for 8 cars there, plus another 2 on the grass under the tree so it's not as if they are short of parking there!

It's all very well saying it's not neighbourly parking there but if I can't then I have to park outside someone else's house.
