As far as the law goes it is simple - so long as your car is taxed, you have the right to park on any public road, so long as you stay within any restrictions placed upon it.

But the other issue is you have to live with these people. I would have another chat and explain your predicament, see if an understanding can be reached.

If they still act stupidly then ask the police to pop by and remind them of the law - that should be all that is necessary.

I know what I'd do but it wouldn't help to mention it here. They wouldn't do it again.

Do you have a 4x4 handy? Tow one out the way if so.

being pedantic but i believe they are all illegally parked, they should be parked facing the right way on a road during the hours of darkness.

I think if you keep ringing the door bell at 5am and wake the house up, they aren't going to try the same trick again.
Or just lean on the horn and wait for a response, its a public road, not their road, and from what I can see, causing no obstruction or anything else for them to moan about.

Good luck.

Ring the door bell at 2am until they wake up and then tell them you need the car to go for a no purpose drive around the block. I'm pretty sure they won't want to bother doing it again.

They've been asked to move one of the cars but they have refused, so we're going to call the police now.

Just be careful that you don't get into a formal dispute... has to be declared when selling a house...

it would be easier to move one of their cars. I managed to slide mine very easily when checking the tyres, maybe try pushing the side of it and slide it out into the road.

ETA. in the snow.

My parents have no intention of selling so that's no problem. The police are going to send someone round but can't say when, initially they said it wasn't anything to do with them but seem to have changed their mind.

As you can see there, it's pretty much the least unsightly place to leave a car within several hundred yards.

Please keep this updated OP

I had a similar situation on a public road in Plymouth when I lived there years ago. Certified psycho bh next door (who didn't drive) kept threatening to "gut" me if I parked in "her" space etc.

I find it really, really odd when people claim a space as "theirs" on a public road.

Good luck! They sound like idiots.

Can you park across the front of your drive or is that already taken by a car as well? Might help if you "use up" that space as well?

We had a few letters attatched to out van when parked on the road behind a 6ft fence for spoiling the view, after lots of threats to go to the poilice they eventually put up a plastic board around the top of the fence........some people just need to complain!

Not really, without blocking either the footpath or our neighbours driveway.

Judging from the pic its outrageous the neighbours parking so close to the OPs car.

As already mentioned if you tax d and fully legal whats the issue? You really could see that getting ugly if you had to get up to work and someone had parked around your car, they need to share some neighbourly love!
