Cheers mate, lots to learn, compared to the usual fit it and do the generic tune thing.kinda new to me to sort the motor to maximise the blower.

Question, are the ls1 and ls6 basically the same apart from heads, cam, intake and maybe compression ? like if i bumped into an ls1 block going cheap would that be fine to build up.

Also not to ignore the ls2,any major aggro in fitting ?

Any input is cool .
cheers.

Dave. Found this from a 2001 spec sheet I have. "The LS6 aluminum block has been modified for better management of crankcase pressures and speedier return of oil from the upper part of the engine during high speed operation".
Mate, that`s exactly the kind of info i need, cheers and don`t go away biggrin

Hey guys trying to sort a few parts for a cunning plan lol. Seems you have to take a lot more into account than i thought, yeah do the forged thing, order up some parts, whoa ,bit harder than that so reckoned the first thing i need to know is comp ratio, which leads to heads,cc etc, main prob seems knock and to stay clear of it.After reading the below thread, still not sure exactly what to do,but kinda leaning 10 : 1 with ls6 heads 64cc and could then go larger cc head if i want to to lower c/r.

Dont want to go to low if it starts to effect low off boost power.
Reckon on doing a 383 with 12 lbs boost first, meth if i need to and go from there, would like to think it will be a little quicker than the stock motor biggrin I`m easily scared so 12lb may be enough..................well for a couple a weeks.

Anyways if you really dont have anything better to do have a read, kinda aware things do change and this is from 2006 ish. What do i know ....not a great deal lol, i notice they reckon you can use a stock crank for up to 1000hp, so worth knowing if i didn`t do a 383.

Slightly more informative, some seem to get good results on low grade gas, which i should take onboard due to ours ,ron factor etc.

Lower c/r seems to allow slightly more to play with boost wise, now going 9.75:1 and around 14lb ,might be i just have to suck it and see biggrin

Really trying to not rip the z apart yet,and the weather really isn`t helping biggrin

Em , well the good news is there's not much bad news biggrin.

Decided to leave the motor in the car alone , and build one from scratch , that`s a lot of parts eh.

So have been trying to get some of the main items needed. I did manage to get a block from a guy 15 miles away which was handy. Got a load of smallish parts while on holiday in Florida , chased a lost parcel and managed to get it just before going home ( not a great time ).

When I did get home fedex had delivered 3 boxes ,Callies 4" Compstar crank ,ultra rods , cp pistons , bearings etc.

First thing I need is cam bearings installed , they need the camshaft to check that the bearings are good to go. Problem one , no camshaft in boxes so not done much since then cam should be with me next week I hope.

Also been trying to get a rear cog drive made for the mp112 , just cant seem to get it done 1:1 ratio let alone overdriven , the rear pressed on pulleys really do suck lol and my intention to really spin that blower is kinda dead in the water. I did leave it with a guy while I was on holiday
yeah no prob should have it done by the time you get back , nope all I have now is one mangled jackshaft pulley which took a beating when they took it off. Kinda chilled about that now , not like I need it right away.

Lets just say bumped into one real nice rear cog drive over on lingenfelters site for the TVS2300 its an upgrade on the cog drive magnuson do for that blower , loads of pulley combinations so could spin that a tad eh ......................................... can ya see where this is going lol.

Hope to get passed the cam bearing install then I`m back in control , will keep you informed just don't want to bore the crap out of everyone biggrin
Cheers bud

Hey bud
Kinda if your gonna buy a new crank then lets have a stroker.

Yeah have rebuilt a few small blocks and one 454 bb chevy, the LS6 is different and a challenge but getting to know it only to well lol.

TVS2300 , well if my guy in texas can come up with a good deal then yeah lol.

Was trying to maximise the motor for the mp112 , kinda now I am doing money and effort on that I feel I now need to max the blower for the motor if your with me.

Yeah love the whine ,but hope the lingenfelter drive should deliver a bit of noise.

Cam should be here Friday so will be on the case soon.

check it out bud

Hey guys
Been busy trying to collect a whole engine in kit form , found that a $10 item is just as important as the more expensive parts lol.

Wanted to keep it on the road at least till the vette nationals then engine out time. Weather was crap on the day so stayed home and decided it was tool time biggrin

So ,out and about

Before the carnage

Tool time

Got a block local , cam bearings installed and had to get them to hone out the bores a tad more to match the pistons i ended up with .

The two end, front and back main caps have two tang cutouts for the bearings ? i just matched them so they were opposite the upper ones .

Callies 383 crank

need to make sure that plug is in the end , where the input shaft goes.

The rod bearings all look the same , no noticeable chamfer on one side etc but they do have U,or L ( upper / lower ) on the back in very small text, ask me how i know lol .

BTW found this tucked inside the front frame rail , nice to have

Not sure if this is too big but its going in now no matter what biggrin

two spacers because of the double timing chain .

Really need to get the rings square in the bore when file fitting , ah yeah forgot about that tool that i would need ,so pop to b/q got this nice

tunmble dryer vent hose coupling ,bit of tweeking and this works pretty good for £4.95 biggrin

Catch ya later , and i hope your not expecting a fire up vid at the end of this page, waiting on parts guys biggrin

Hey thanks guys , i like to share what i find out and i find pics real useful.

Gixer , build sheet yeah , think my scanner is a tad to small maybe try and get a couple of good photos of it.

swerni ,sorry bud biggrin

Chris 4" crank + a tad over stock bore should get me 383 cu in.

Just incase your in this area with your c5

will need a scrub and paint

Due to the longer stroke crank i had to dimple the windage tray ,and use spacer washers on the main cap nuts was a bit of a tinker.

Front timing cover needed a slight grind on the inside because of the pumps new forward position

The baffles in the pan had to be trimmed a tad because the windage tray is higher, kinda do one mod and it does effect lots of other parts eh

one for stevieturbo case he pops in

Sensors cam position and that dreaded oil pressure thingy

LS7 lifters in the tray

Heads , kinda more for freshen up plus dont want to start breaking up the stock ls6 motor PRC from texas speed 64cc dual springs CNC ports seem pretty good quality for not a load of bucks .

ARP , the nuts lol.

Mate said why are they gold and pretty when no one see`s them , kinda right there not a petrol head eh.

Mounting bolt on intake port needs a bit of thread sealant

Torque tube, a pita but thought it mad not to check propshaft when its that near

The snap ring really is something else lol The rubber couplers looked newish, bearings ok too so stuck it all back in .

Beer time biggrin

Baz cheers bud , i know you love tools and a tinker biggrin

Ringram , well thats what i thought mate ,gave my guy almost the numbers you mentioned early on in this thread , he had a word with the tech at comp and they sent this .

Not sure you need much overlap with a blower ? . Does boost go straight out the exhaust ?

Getting a cam has been a bit of a b , wasn`t in the first shipment of parts , stalled the whole thing for months ,so maybe they then rushed the thing and got me what they had available .

Check this out bud , did read somewhere a pd blower can get away with a slightly larger cam ,but $hit what do i know bud biggrin

http://www.compcams.com/Company/CC/cam-specs/Detai...

Comp ratio , kin thing biggrin kinda went in the middle of low verses high ,faik should be aprox 9.6 :1 with those pistons and 64 cc chambers, gaskets .

PS this is slightly larger cu in than stock and with the TVS2300 in mind with as much boost as i can get away with, not the mp112 incase i may be confusing you lol.

Cheers for the input / help mate.

Well if it`s as fast as your reply i`ll be happy biggrin

Can`t say i need it to be interesting to tune lol , and probably never gonna be a daily , also like lopey but maybe not lumpy .

Yeah reckon that was the thinking ref tq of the tvs low down .

Think i will ponder this one while the motor is out and easier to sort . One thing i like about modern cars, mod them and they still drive near stock until you want some fun

unlike twin 40`s etc on a pinto . biggrin
