Can you give me an idea of C5 values in uk please

Not been here for a while but some time ago I did some work on a C5 my uncle shipped over from the states to get it through its SVA. After hardly using it he took it to Spain. There it sits unused. Sad but true.

Anyways, It really grew on me. A friend on mine knows of a Silver one in England possibly for sale. An almost one owner '97 coupe in silver with 37000 miles. It has an irish type reg on it starting SIL incase anyone knows of it.

What would be a decent buy of this car? I have no real idea...!

That SIL car was advertised on a trade website last week, how much did they offer it to you for ?

You see C5s for sale at anything from £12K to £18K. But you can often get a pretty good one for around £15K.

Think its the same one at just over 11000. My friend who told me about it is in the trade and probably saw it on same website.

C5 values have not only held up over the last six or seven years,due to the Europeans buying a large percentage of C5's they actually increased in value towards the end of the 2000's. That market has dwindled somewhat with the global downturn, but private vendors still ask big money for them.
Plenty get advertised for strong money and they hang around for months, in some cases years !
The C7 will create an influx of C6's to the marketplace, this will, in my opinion devalue the C5 much the same as the C5 devalued the C4, they will then level out for a prolonged period of years before slowly increasing in value again.
The car in question is not expensive at that but don't expect it to increase in value much, if at all in the coming years.

Mine is in the classifieds - 2003 Z06. Not seen much interest, so suggests it's priced high, on the other hand with such a rare model in the UK, the pool of buyers is small so you need to wait a bit.. It is such a lot of car for the money then the other consideration is that it's better to keep it than undersell it. In my case I will haggle, but not hugely..

I think you may be correct about the price and number of potential buyers. I had a bit of interest from Ebay on mine. Guess it depends on how fast you want to sell it.

I eventually sold my yellow 2003 Z06 to a dealer who advertised it 18 months ago for less than yours. Same year, bog standard, 50,000 miles. Of course, I took a hit on it, but it was a means to an end and I wasn't bothered about the money side as I was buying at a really good price (IMO).

C5 z06 has become quite rare I think there are only 2 for sale in the uk I love the shape of the c5 and really like the way it drives I have had few supercharged ones would like to get a standard one some day

The 97 and 98 models used a very odd ECU which was dropped in 98.

You are better looking for a 99+

Ive seen them from around £9k which is a bargain.

Try and get the Z51 option whatever one you buy.

Manual trans probably preferable.

Hello, first post! Slightly off at a tangent......but not sure how to start new thread.

I am interested in buying a C5 Z06. There are two currently for sale in the classifieds.

Silver 2001 47000 miles

Both appear to be in very good condition and would suit me well.
I've had a good read up on general problems.

The 2001 car is more within my budget. Is there any advantage to it being a UK car?
Are there any significant improvements which would make the 2003 car a better purchase? I appreciate it's more expensive given newer/less miles/one owner and has a bit more bhp.

Any advice, gratefully received.

There are a few improvements from the 2001 to 2002 Z06, not just +20bhp.

I also believe this includes eliminating the excessive oil consumption issue that afflicts some cars, but more than likely it is due to some drivers that drive around everywhere in 2nd gear at 4000rpm+.

I have a 2001 Z06, and it does not use much oil at all and I occaisionaly drive on track. Mine does suffer with a bit of a leaky back axle though. Shock valving was changed for 2002, which I believe reduces axle hop on hard launches. I suspect this may have increased the chances of a leak with a 2001.

For me the other benefit of the later cars is the HUD was standard (not even an option on an 01Z). But this can be retrofitted relatively easy.

With regards to it being a UK car. This would normally mean you end up with the rather unsightly rear fogs, which that car does not have. Other than this I would check the cost of the road fund licence, because later UK cars should fall into the CO2 based taxation. US Imports have to use the old >1.6L system (c.£230). The 2001 will likely be old enough to be on the old system anyway, but it is worth checking. You may also save a bit on insurance being a UK car, but insurance should be fairly cheap anyway. One other cool thing with a UK car is the 300mph speedo!

It's my guess that you would not be dissappointed with either of these cars.
