I have always owned a V8 TVR. I have had several, some 4 litre and a 4.5. Now I would like to buy a C3 as I have always liked them. I am going to look at a few over the next few days and any advice on what to look for on a late C3 would be most welcome. How do I check the chassis and what parts are prone to corrosion? Do they suffer overheating issues? Apart from the obvious I would like some guide as to what normally gives problems on a late C3. Any information would be most welcome and thanks in advance for anyone responding to my request.

All C3's are at risk from rust affecting the chassis and 'birdcage' that forms part of the windscreen surround. Later car have steel floor pans which are prone to rust. Very late cars are valued higher than mid/late 70's cars. Earlier cars are currently grossly undervalued both here and in the 'States. As with any car that will be at least 30 years old there will be outstanding, good, bad and plain indifferent examples out there. A later 70's C3 that has been cherished with a hi po crate engine would be a reasonably priced car and far less fragile than a TVR. With uprated springs and shockers it will be a match for many period Eurpean cars. Go and visit CCCUK's website and forum - membership is £35 pa - there will be a local meeting to you where you can seek the advise of members.
