Hi - I am currently based in the USA and have had the pleasure of a C5 Z06 Z16 (Z16 is the Le Mans commemorative pack; stripes, carbon bonnet etc)

Its one of the last C5's manufactured (late 2004), has <35K miles and is in in very good condition. 2 owners.

I may be back in the UK in the next 6 months and am wondering if this corvette has any value or desirability in the UK or Europe.

So, should I sell in the USA or bring it back?

Any thoughts welcome...

Thanks.

It's worth around $26000 on the east coast of USA.

My brother bought the exact same car over here last year with a heap load of extras and probably as clean an example you would ever find, had new seats (with orignals) new exhaust, (with original hardly used) upgraded wheels, stereo and lots and lost more, he paid just over £20k from memory, it won best C5 at the nats and also at Le Mans coral won best C5. So over here your probably circa £17k - £20k, some C5 Z06 have been sold for as little as £15k just to give you an idea

I would just bring it back with you. I did, and I still have mine 8 years later.

If you do this you don't have to pay import duty or VAT, as long as you don't sell it within the specified time (one year possibly). Plus you have to prove you owned it in the US, for something like at least 6 months.

The cost to convert the lights is minimal, and pretty easy on a C5. You may also not need an IVA test as yours is possibly old enough to qualify for just an MOT - not sure on this.

I imported a couple of cars when I moved back to the UK last year; at that time the rules were one had to have owned the car for more than 6 months before moving over and had to keep it for at least 12 months after moving. In so doing, the duty and VAT are negated.

Sounds like the rules are still the same from when i imported mine.

Makes a real difference when you compare the value of your car in the UK, as import duty and VAT adds something like 30%.

I've just been through this with my 05 C6 and 15 Ram 2500...........

You'll be able to ship the Vette for circa £1000 from the east coast including UK customs, cheaper if Ro-Ro.

C5 is a doddle to convert to UK regs.

It just needs an MOT as over 10 years old.

Must keep 12 months min to avoid Duty/VAT and it says so on V5.

I worried the experience would not be the same here as opposed there (I was in Vegas for 5 years) but it feels even quicker and gains so much positive attention. You know as well as I do how 'ten a penny' they are in the States.

My vote is bring it back and enjoy it for longer! Bottom line is you are very unlikely to be worse off?

So problem solved.....I bought another one! My minter will be sold here and I've got a half caged, nasty cam track rat to terrorise UK track days with.

Did a hpde day in the z16 and it was absolutely bloody awesome!

Some decent seats and an oil cooler and we are set.

Thanks for feedback......
