I live in the US and was curious about the uk chevy website, they list the z06. What is the deal with this, do chevrolet officially import them to the UK? Is it cheaper to import one privately?

Yes. I believe it is available here now.

It's unlikely there is much saving if you were to personally import a new US car. The general rule of thumb with current exchange rates is replace the $ with £. So a $100k car becomes a £100k car here!

This covers shipping, insurance, conversion for UK lighting etc, and the big one which i believe is 30% taxes (VAT at 20% and import duty of 10%?)

These days there's very little difference between the US and Euro cars so some people have chosen to import. However, the UK dealer is now said to have access to supply of all cars - at a price! Z06 is likely to cost more than £100k by the time you're in the driver's seat so I doubt many will be sold when you compare against the other cars available in Europe for that price.

It really is deja vu all over again, isn't it? From C5, through C6, to C7, GM always give the impression they really don't want to sell Vettes in the UK... Ah well, the C6 is still running fine at approaching 8 years old and 55K miles so not the end of the World smile

Once again a lack of support from GM in the UK, You struggle to find New American cars in the UK now. chrysler has now packed up Chevrolet gone, Dodge stopped in 09. cadillac only in left hand drive from one dealer. Also many dealers packed up in the last five years! Bauer Millett, Amrrican car importst, Newport Imports and all the official GM dealers gone since Stratstone gave up. It's a shame I think just a handful of C7's will be ever in the UK and in time most owners will move on to other makes and models. Which have a better dealer network and backup! A shame as the C7 is just going into another price area where so much more is around in that bracket.

Valid comments - not so long ago (10/11 years) when C6 was being introduced if was feasible to get a new or delivery miles UK spec C5 for mid/high £30K's when UK list was early £40k's (correct me if I'm wrong)- are we aware of any other car that has a UK list price that has increased by a factor of 70% or so in the same period? - UK list price of RHD UK spec Mustang GT or ragtop with all options looks a bargain in comparative terms (at half the price of a equivalent UK spec Vette) - is the Mustang GT 'half the car though'?

I agree, Vette prices have gone up an awful lot, but they are really not that far out when you look at the competition, and the competition (Porsche 911) has certainly pushed prices up a lot too.

Current UK prices are below, and I know which base model I would rather have - the only one that comes with a V8 and 460hp!

Vette = £62,450 - £91,480 (Z06 convertible starting price)

Porsche 911 = £76,412 - £154,614

Jaguar F-type = £51,760 - £97,145

To be honest, the way I see it, Chevy have not exactly had cars flying out of the door in the UK when they were priced a little cheaper (relatively), so why not push them a little more up market. Maybe we will see GM introduce a more budget sports car in the future to compete with the Mustang over here. RHD Camaro anyone, now there's a thought. It will be interesting to see how the Mustang does over here.
