Don’t know about long term but ours did it earlier this year.

Driving along and suddenly all the alarms went off and bam no fuel. More of a “Aghh no not us and St the warrantee ran out last week” than an “oh god got to find a filling station” moment as I knew about the erratic gauge problem, it was followed by “hmm how much was there before the bottom of the tank fell out” Anyway tried cycling the ignition and no joy, left it parked up for a while an still no fuel. Then next time it was back and has been ever since, go figure. I have to say we decided to live with the chance if it happening again than get some one up north to look at it given the mess they made last time the car went north.

Here's a Technical Service Bulletin number to quote to your favourite garage:

Erratic Fuel Gauge Reading (Reprogram the PCM) #02-06-04-010A - (06/27/2003) 1999-2002 Chevrolet Corvette

This bulletin is being revised to add models and update the Correction and Warranty Information. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 02-06-04-010 (Section 06- Engine).

Condition
Some owners may comment about the fuel gauge intermittently indicating an empty reading and then return to the correct fuel level indication.

Cause
This condition may result when fuel blends containing aggressive sulphur compounds react with the fuel sender assembly, which may result in voltage spikes being induced on the fuel level signal to the PCM. Use of another fuel blend may reverse this reaction and return the system to normal operation.

Correction
Reprogram the PCM with the new service calibration which is available in the June 2003, Techline® TIS release sent to the dealers on 6/28/03. Use the TIS Version 7 or later data update.

Warranty Information
For vehicles repaired under warranty, use:

Hi all, sorry for the thread resurrection, but id like to have this done to my Z06 as im in the process of selling it and it would be nice to sell it faultless.
Where can i go to get the ECU updated as per the bulletin?

Apologies as this is a thread resurrection of a thread resurrection....

Does anyone still get this problem with the C5 fuel gauge? I had it once on a french motorway late at night miles from anywhere and it certainly 'raised an eyebrow' (i.e. panic!). Subsequently poured a bottle of two of injector cleaner in and now I don't live in France I'm hoping that it was their crap fuel to blame, and the problem has not reoccurred since (touch wood).

Anyone had this recently? Anyone had the GM update applied recently?

I had this issue one time, on the first tank after i bought the car in 2007 (a 2001MY Z06). It has never re-occurred since.

I bought the car in Detroit, and who knows what cheap gas they filled it up with, as they give you a full tank when you buy from a dealer.

I imported the car to the UK, about a year later, and I always use good quality super (Esso or Shell), and have never had this problem again.

I should have added that the one time it did happen was on a super hot day....
