Yep 2006 is supposed to be the Z06(7) will it use a LS7 engine rather rather than a LS6? will it be an Z07? will it be delayed until 2007?

All these and many more answers are yet to come!

I have to say that I think that if the Corvette is marketed in europe, it needs marketing in a way Europeans understand. Evocative to the Americans though it may be, Z06 means zip in the UK.

I think the stock C6 should be the Corvette GS400 and the "Z06" should be the GS500R or whatever bhp they end up with. Even Brits should understand those badges.

And I say that with long experience of people asking if a Z28 has a 2.8 engine.

Does it look right?
Does it go?
Presto!

The fiddly numbers are for pointy-heads, anoraks and dweebs.

Ah.....you mean customers....

Have a look at this, Mr BMWGuy, it's a Corvette.

Very nice, what, sports car jobby is it?

And look at this. It's a ZR1. It's twice as expensive as that one.

Oh, what's the difference.

Well this one has a 5.7 litre V8 and this one has a.. well, let's move on.

What was that again...a Corsair?

Er, no...and this is a Z06

A what? Six cylinder is it?

No, it's a V8

Well why isn't it a ZV8 then?

Well...way back in the 60's....

Anyway, the point is this. Europeans are generally badge conscious and an eclectic badge means nothing to the guy over the road. Porsche knew it and use the classsic GT badge as do Aston as do Ferrari. Lambo use SV. Ah well...you get the drift.

Chevrolet may use the past ZR1 or ZL1 designation for the special 625bhp TT car.

MTI also use the Z07 designation for their Z07 engine package - legal issues and implications, anyone?

GS400 sounds like a Lexus......

If they don't use the Corvette name it should be named after a large predatory fish!

Barracuda has been used, as has obviously Stingray, Hammerhead? (no that is a corner on the Top Gear circuit)

howabout......Tiger Shark?

No, no, no, I mean keep the Corvette bit, just add on the engine bhp as a differentiator of models. I used GS after the 1996 GS but GT would be OK.

Lexus LS400 anyway...

... but I'm sure that the beemer 316 actually has a 1.8 engine in it...

Anyway: let's put it this way. Who cares what Mr Beemer and Mr (how many turbos does my car need) Audi think... Rear lights is all they need to see and know ...

I also read on a reliable source that the BMW 323i has a 2.5 litre engine in it (from the 2.5 litre). Talk about misleading [advertising], and I don't know what the differences are.

How about 500VT? Just try different letter combos at the end of the number (for the BHP).

There's too many numbers on cars these days, it'll need a name to stand out like cars have done in the past eg. Dino, Diablo, E-type, Granada....
It'd have to have an American flavour, so something like "Mutha" would be good. The Corvette Mutha. It'd certainly work in the US: "Dang it, Martha, I got beat by one of them there darn Muthas tonight". Ok, OK, I'm just leaving....

I agree with Paul too many numbers etc. Good(?) old British Leyland took the biscuit with the MGBGTV8! God help us!
