I know it may look a lot better in the flesh, but i do not like certain aspects of the c6,
Anyone agree, and if so what bits are you not sure of.

Until I see the C6 up close I am reserving judgement. There is supposed to be one on display at Le Mans this year, so hopefully I will get to see it then.

Engine aside, the C6 exterior styling is PANTS, IMHO.
To my mind GM missed an excellent opportunity to bring in some C3 influenced retro-styling.
Okay, flame retardent suit on...

I do like certain aspects of the car better than the C5 -

1) Interior. I really dislike the interior of my vette. The C6 looks nice inside.
2) Shorter overhangs - I'm gonna attempt to fix this a little with my upcoming bodykit!
3) Circular tail lights. I'm quite digging that.

What I don't like -

1) Front Grille. Not stylish or agressive enough.
2) Subdued shape. It's not as curvy as the C5.
3) The fact that they moved the corvette logo - it belongs between the rear lights.
4) The spacky door handles.
5) The front lights - I will be replacing my popups with non-popups soon, so I'm not necessarily "pro-popups", but I think they could have done a better job of the lights.
5) 6 litre engine. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the vette has been 5.7 litre ONLY since 1974. That's a tradition that I think should have been stuck to. If they wanted more power, put the LS6 in the C6, and put a modified version (LS7?) in the Z06/7. I think this is something that it was bad to change.
6) The fact that they decided to stick with Leaf-Spring suspension. Idiots! What's up with that!?

I can't say I'm 100% happy with the way the C5 looks now (although I did think it looked awesome when it was originally released), but I intend to change that a bit within the next few months.

The thing is, I think Corvettes have to grab you when you see them initially. It was love at first sight with me with the C1, C3 and C5. C2 and C4 have grown on me because I'm a Vette enthusiast, but I don't think I'd ever bother owning either. I've owned a C3 and 2 C5's so far...

Whilst I won't get rid of my vette (I plan on keeping it and spending an unfeasible amount of cash on it!), I'm sad to say that I think my next every-day car will be the new Mustang.

Here's hoping that the C7 will be a return to grace...

My thoughts exactly. Can't say how disappointed I was when I saw the C6 pics. Even the comparison test of the C5 + C6 in a magazine who's name I can't remember (not Corvette Fever but someone had it at the Fairmile the other week and at the Kent meeting last week) made the C5 look better IMHO, even though the C6 was bright (Torch?) red.

Shame they didn't have a bit more foresight at GM and think about something really special for the 50th (longest running sporstcar name ever?)I think they should have brought out a retro influenced but still modern "Stingray" edition or something.

Hate to mention the future M*sta*ng but even though the production car is watered down from the incredible looking concept it still is a striking looking car, enough by the sound of things to be hurting sales of the existing car in the run-up to the new car's launch. Whereas I've only heard existing C5 owners over here talking about their "next C5"

GM have already killed off the Camaro and Firebird, lets hope they don't kill off the Corvette.

When we first saw the C5 at the Nationals (Fairway Green, ugh!) didn't like it at all. However the shape grew on us and we bought the 98 pace car, which we love! In a way I still prefer our 1994 C4, but Keith and I are at odds over the C6. He loves the look of it and the headlights, I don't like the headlights at all since I prefer the popups and I'll reserve judgement on the overall car till seen in the flesh.
I didn't like the way GM altered the front of the Camaro in 98 so maybe I just don't like change!!
The new 'stangs look really good but IMHO BRING BACK THE CAMARO (OR ANY TRUE F BODY)

I prefer the big ass and the length of the C5 over the C6. Bigger is better!

BTW on the interior. As Colvette says the C6 has a nicer inside, does that mean they have started to add things like sat-nav and vanity mirrors in terms of features over the C5...? (Forgive me I have not seen the spec).

Sat Nav is certainly an option on the C6, probably only work in the US!

I for one love the shape of the new C6, and I think it really does look sleeker than the C5.

The fixed lights give it a 550-ish look, and anyway: 400/400 ponies and lbft ain't bad.

If anybody managed to see it (perhaps it's still available for download) there's some footage of it in this years "An American Revolution" chevrolet Ad...

I must say, on video, this looked like one heck of a car...

I dislike the front and rear of the C6 and also the interior. I think they've tried to capture styling cues from previous generations and put them together, but this sort of approach rarely works. Dare I say it but the C6 could be GM's Edsel. You need one stylist and one styling theme inside and out to make a truly attractive car.

I'm sure that its a better car to drive than the C5, and probably better put together, but sports cars are about a blend of performance and emotion.

It might look better in the flesh, though on the other hand it might look worse !

So did the '84 Corvette, the contrived American road testers even manage to run it against contemporary Ferraris, Lambos, and Porsches and make the Corvette look good....

... how the hell did they do that?

Tristram's right, a design needs to be coordinated and have a theme to look good. That's what bothers me about most TVRs since the Cerbera, they look like they made the body sticky, then just randomly threw a load of vents and assorted lights at the body and saw what stuck on!

For the C6 maybe they went down the local Japanese parts specialists and bought a bumper for a Nissan, a grill for a Toyota, a wing for a Mazda.......

Seeing one in the flesh will be the real test although I'm sure that as a Mk2 of the successful C5 there are bound to be enough buyers for the car. But whether it's a sufficient step forward from the previous car to justify selling a C5 to buy a C6 is a big question.

Well I'm fond of the C6 styling but the fact that the stylist of that Pontiac Aztek SUV designed the C6 says a lot really...

Go to www.gryphonauto.com > models. I know the owner of that site and he wants to put the bodykits as shown on the site (and which aren't finalised) into production...

Personally, I really like the C6 (although I do feel they played rather safe). I like the front lights, although I'd prefer it if the unit wasn't body coloured.

I'd really like to see some of the alternative designs that the Big Bosses turned down. Anyone know where we can find them? Must be on the wibblyweb somewhere.

I'm off to California next month, so will be sure to stop off at a GM dealership for a close-up (I'm assuming they'll have some demo models?)

I think the only place to find alternative designs for the C6 which were turned down (I've never seen any) would be the forums - CorvetteForum, ZO6Vette, and Digital Corvettes, or perhaps Road and Track, Car and Driver, or the other US car mag out of the big 3 (whatever it's called). They were probably removed by GM requesting so.

The C6 is coming to dealers in summer I think so you may be a little early to see it in person.

Doubtful - The car isn't released until later this year - I would think the earliest you'd see one would be september...

I don't mind the back end but can't look at it without thinking "Big Elise, Big Elise" and the front just look naff in my opinion. I'm pretty sure I read that Bob Lutz didn't like it either (disappointed was the word) but it was already signed off and I believe there were already plans to redesign it after a year. We shall see although I suspect it's success or lack of it will dictate whether a revamp is necessary.

I think the C5 showed the "rightness" and durability of it's design in not being revamped at all in it's 7 year production cycle, unlike the C3 and C4 ( and probably C1 and C2 too). Must be a first for Chevy who traditionally like to fiddle round with designs mid-cycle.

Im in Bowling Green in two weeks time so I'll let you know what the C6 is like in the flesh! I have to say on the whole I like the car, certainly much more than the C5 when it was released.
I have to say I agree that GM could have done much more with the styling but unfortunately when it comes to being bold they usually chicken out! I am REALLY hoping I can get a drive in a C6, I can imagine there have been major improvements on the handling front.

The 350, incidentally, debuted in the Corvette in 1969.

The new Mustang, which you'd think would stop sales of the old car in it's tracks, in fact didn't have that effect and sales of the current Mustang increased from Sep to Dec 03. Weird.

Personally, I think they got it wrong. I think they should have nicked the Elise S2 front end and had a more recognisably corvette rear end.
