You need an external mic.

Once you do collect it, please ensure you invest in a proper mount for the camera, the hand held videos make me feel queasy! wink

Come on Nigel, you've seen my other 'sunny day' blat in the hired 125 Roadsport. That was filmed on my GoPro mounted to the rear wing. That is how they shall be from now on. This video was hastily grabbed on my phone whilst bouncing up and down in the passenger seat! Anyway the video is irrelevant...it's all about the noise cloud9

Exactly, that was just my point, we seem to have so many shoddy videos these days, but it's so easy to make one that's so much better due to a proper mount, and in some cases a correctly placed external microphone, and it does not cost a lot, but makes the videos so much more enjoyable for the owner and everyone else who view them on YouTube or the web etc!

Just watched a couple of your vids Nigle, see what you mean about the mic, that camera was used in the tvr race car we had so external mic was not needed, this is one of the drift cameras Tweeks sell and never used externally before so I will see if they do the ext mic, the race R 300 uses V Box which has an external mic.

Whilst watching your vids I did notice a lot of feeding the wheel throughout your hands, much better if you keep them in one place, hope you don't mind me suggesting this .

Craig.

Video from the Taffia trackday on Saturday.

I've sorted my microphone position and I'm really happy with the results!

Finally you can hear the sound of the car on video!

Hi Andy,

Thanks for sharing thumbup

Out of interest how do you find your wind deflectors? Do they just slot into the hinges on the side of the screen?

On the road they're utterly useless smile

Anything over about 40 and all the air just gets sucked out from where the doors should be and you'll either suffocate or go deaf in your right ear!

On the track though with a full face helmet they were much better. I kept hitting my head against the doors and not having them on was a revelation. I still think an aeroscreen would be the best option if you're towing the car to a trackday. But to just arrive there, quickly remove the doors and screw on the windscreen mirrors, it was very easy and made the experience much more enjoyable!

My shower cap doesn't fit on properly with the windscreen mirrors though! Which was a bit of a problem when it rained in the morning. I'd love to get two zips put in for them, but given how expensive the shower caps are, I'd not want to risk it going wrong smile In fairness, removing the mirrors takes a minute at most. It's just a single allen key attachment on each one.

Yep I am using my iPad, so it's probably that, I will try it on my MBP later!

Don't normally have a problem with viewing linked YouTube videos here on PH on my iPad!

Hi framerateuk - I was at Llandow as well, in the yellow R300 that jettisoned its left front cycle wing...! I liked your wing mirror setup - any more info on that?

Ah! That must have given you quite a shock! A common problem it seems, mine are bonded on, but it gets you thinking that maybe they should be bolted!

Yeah no problem, the mirrors are the standard door mirrors (I bought another set since they're a pain to remove/reattach) from the doors. The mirrors are then attached to the windscreen using these:

http://caterhamparts.co.uk/product.php?id_product=...

They're a hundred times better than the sidescreen mirrors. They don't vibrate in the wind and you can see everything clearly, you also get a wider field of view since they're further away. You can't open the doors fully with them on though, so they come off as soon as I'm done with the trackday.

The deflectors are these:

Keep an eye on Blatchat. Someone is usually selling a pair when they go aero!

Just a word of warning - I also have these mirrors and I do find they can obscure my vision when entering roundabouts. Mind you I am fairly short (5ft 9 on a good day) and have tillets and lowered floors. In fact it's lucky I can see over the wheel!

Yeah I wouldn't recommend them on the road with full doors anyway since you can't open the doors fully. But they're ideal on a trackday.
