Thanks guys for contributing.

I followed up on the Elan +2 and measured the wishbones. Although the track with might be in the right region for a widetrack, the inside is too wide. Looks like it is easier to just fabricate. And I don't have to cut in the chassis smile

Currently not much is happening with the S4. I am currently installing all new suspension and busings in the Porsche to be ready for some track days.

Did go to a car show with about 700 sports cars. Among them about 20 Sevens, one S4...

Had to go with the doors on since I brought my youngest son.

I don't know how I missed this thread first time round, well done. You've taken a truly hideous looking car and made it very nice indeed.

Personally I think the front of the rear arches would benefit from some black or carbon stone chip protection to break up the orange but overall I think it looks fantastic. You have a great car collection smile

Thanks for the feedback. Some black stonechip protection is coming on at some point. For now I will just use the car. All mods will be done in the winter. Might do a zetec conversion, but then again the Sound of this xflow is just fantastic! I smile everytime I lift of the gas. So much bangs and pufs. Love it!

Just a test with my mobile. Press to playsmile

Anyone have some feedback on the zetec and choice of induction. I realy would like the rough rally sound like the xflow.

Hi Knut, - you should talk to Mal. I am sure that he could give you some good advices.
Yes, there is nothing better than the noises that Twinks and Xflows are able to produce on demand.... Hajo

Boing!

Any more thoughts on fabricating the wishbones? Will you rose joint them?

Farlig, did you get the Hi-Spec brakes?

Regards,
Mick.

Mick,
yep got them fitted & bedded in despite the atrocious summer we're having this year. I must confess the brakes are very good and the car stops on a penny, but I'm still not happy with feel... My main aim at going up in disc size, piston and pad area were to try to get better feel on the point just before lock... Unfortunately I have not succeeded and It's still very easy to lock up when braking hard and I can't find the point just before to modulate... They're not wooden anymore but a long way off what I'd like...

Knut,
I have a standard 2.0 zetec on Jenvys and a Raceco, so I can maybe try to make a recording for you if you want...?
Would really prefer a twink though to suit the car better!

Cheers,
Neil

Wishbones will be welded up by tubes, just like the ones pictured earlier in the thread. Should be easy and it looks like it is the standard methode for the locost builders. It wil also fit on the original chassis without modification.

Not sure if I will do it this winter though. Roll bar is probably first up..

Mate, you´ve done a good job.
My way would be to restore the car in shape as original as possible (clamshells, wheels, colour, RHD, engine), but that´s not a criticism of your way. You worked hard, thumbs up

Not fitted - I've upped the rear cylinder size to 22mm to try to shift the rears into doing a bit more work, but this is a temporary measure until I get a rear disc setup working... I have a bunch of bits but looking like there is a clash with my wheels so I've delayed the project to winter to keep driving this "summer" out... I'm still very tempted to order a bespoke Ti axle from Force biggrin

Ah, there's the rub! You need bias! I'm assuming you have twin master cylinders, from what you say.
You do realize that a larger master cylinder will increase the pedal travel and need more pedal pressure don't you?
The Caterham "uprated master cylinder" that most people refer to as the bigger one, is actualy a smaller bore.
(Think of the pressure of a high heel shoe exerts on the ground, as opposed to a Brikenstock sandal smile )
So if you want the rears to do more work, you need a master cylinder with a smaller bore. IIRC the master cylinder to piston area ratio is about 6:1 ?
So you need to match those with your callipers/slave cylinders.
Appologies if you alredy know all this! I'll getmecoatbiggrin

Funny you should mention Force, I've been thinking about the big chunk of iron called a De-dion tube wink
But my rear brakes project is starting to move, so I'll hang on to the pennies for a while.

Regards,
Mick.

Hi Mick, yeah eggs and all... Sorry but I wasn't too clear, I upped the wheel cylinder size of my rear drum brakes... I'm halfway through putting together a set of rear discs for my English axle but having some clearance probs... Hence a cheap pair of wheel cylinders is a halfway house... Single MC at the mo, but giving serious consideration to a twin setup after I get the rear discs working wink

ETA - I believe the updated MC (AP) CC sell is actually a larger bores size (13/16") hence it gives a firmer pedal / less travel / more pedal force... This is allegedly more suitable for the upgrade to 4 pots with a much larger piston area in the calipers...

EATA - we can join forces on Force (scuze the pun) and get them to make the first versions & set up supply of titanium De Dion tubes, and English live axle tubes, I'm sure there will be a market on BC and in the Escort / Cortina world wink

I looked at the original route in the start, but I know i would not be satisfied. I use my cars hard, and dont mind If they brake or have small impacts. If i went original/concourse route I would just not use the car as it was ment to(in my hands)

Mick & Farlig: you guys have too much money. Titanium rear axle.....
