Apart from the obvious weight issues, my main issue with carrying things above the Seven would be the chance of being stopped by plod.
I've seen wheel racks on the rear cage and a cycle racks, but I just wonder if the police would pull you over for a such a thing? I guess the type approval rules are different for kit cars, but I just wonder if it's worth the hassle.
We managed a 10 day trip around Scotland with just the extra boot bag (the Oxted/Thundersport one in our case) and had no problems.

Why would they though?
No different to a roof box on top of anything else, in fact, if it's attached to a cage it's probably safer than something clamped to the gutters of a conventional car.
Not all cars are type approved for carrying loads on their roof - is the same as the towing law: you can only tow with a car that is type approved for towing.
My Megane for example, happens to not be type approved for towing or roof loads. I can't have a roof box or tow my 7 with it! Insurance would be invalid if I was to do either with it.
Like I said, I'm not sure how it would work with a kit car though. I guess it avoids such rules?
