Blatchat was changing long before the new forum went live - I think this is down to the "angry" members leaving after an incident with one or more of their posting - most of which were a mystery to me as I nexpver saw the posts that caused it.

Does that mean that the ones that are left are the "dullest people on earth" - I don't think so, but as I am one of them, I suppose I would think that.

I have been guilty of googling things for people, but many users seem to find using the internet difficult (witness the number that can't use linkys) and there is a knack to finding some things on Google, so I like to think it is helpful. The most useful thing for me are the Technical postings (but that needs a better search function!) and the POBC posts which are interesting and I can sometimes help. I tend to avoid posts where the angry members are, although even then some are worth following (for a while!)

Steve

Totally agree about the technical content that is on the Forum (TechTalk) - when building and maintaining a Se7en there is some invaluable stuff on there.

The POBC has also been very helpful to me on occasion. The POBC was for getting real experience and knowledge though, not for posting a link to something I could have found myself.

Arguably, I would say that's probably because Blatchat and the new forum are the only forums I regularly use that don't automatically create hyperlinks from URLs that are pasted into the text editor. It's usually a simply matter of enabling the feature, so I've always wondered why they've never used it.

I think there is only one google twit who really takes it too far ... way, way too far. I have often been tempted to pay my membership just so that I can ask him to shut up.

Can't use linkys ... another way of looking at that would be ... can't be bothered to waste braincells when linkys are made complicated.

Oh yes, some of the angry posts are fun to follow for a while.

I suspect I know who you're talking about, very, very irritating indeed!

It's the same bloke that replies to every single bloody post isn't it?

I agree that POBC comes into its own when you tap into the expertise of other members, but there are quite a few questions (non-POBC) that Google can answer better than someone's opinion.

I just want to say that the members on Techtalk are still very helpful.
After a lot of googling and reading forums leading me round in circles, I recently posted a technical question and received exactly the information I needed for the winter upgrade on my Seven.

Also, Techtalk has now been made visible to non-members as a few of us requested after the forum change hid it.
I'm definitely going to keep my membership in the summer having considered resigning in protest at the change to Techtalk.

Just to be clear, GoogleTwit is a public servant, no doubt on a six figure publicly funded salary, who clearly never does any work. He does post on lots of threads, but not as many as the person which caused one member to create a login "I post on every thread". This latter person must spend more time stationary on the M25 than anyone else.

So in true ANt &b Dec style, I can inform the public that in relation to GoogleTwit, Steve - its not you. Neither are all of the most boring people on earth on Blatchat, just a few of them, and they are not the majority in terms of membership, they just seem to use a lot of words to say nothing about anything that really matters.

Err ..you don't belong to the Club , but you do seem to spend an unhealthy amount of time obsessing about what you think is wrong with it it which really can't be very good for your blood pressure. Thought of getting a hobby to get you out a bit more?

No - but I do wish people would leave JK alone. He may wear his learning a little heavily sometimes but his heart is in the right place and unlike many he is unfailingly courteous, in contrast to some of his more vocal critics. And of course- you don't have to read it !

I have received help from both the BlatChat members referred to and whilst, for whatever reasons they have upset others on here, I found them selfless in providing me assistance and advice clap (which potentailly confirms the suggestion that they have nothing better to do! rolleyes) and if I ever meet them, I will warmly shake their hands and buy them beers.

It is the knowledge of the other members that to me is the primary value of my L7C membership even if these days the access to it isn't as smooth as it was (or will be no doubt).
