Well that is good you are looking at boats as well, as every car will feel like one after a Seven.

Ive had my Supersport for a year and would have to agree its 'awesome'. Brilliant on the roads, especially with the 'peashooter' exhaust popping and banging , but you can really only find its limits on track.

Ive done 3 track days and its fantastic fun to drive on track, you can really feel all four wheels moving around and slipping slightly underneath you.

However, I do find that on anything approaching a decent straight on track it runs out of 'oomph' which can frustrate - I tend to be quicker than most road cars on the bends but the higher powered stuff will pull away slightly on the straights.

The 180bhp 'R' wasn't out when I got mine. If I was ordering mine now, would I go for the 'R'? Possibly yes, assuming that the extra power doesn't corrupt the superb balance the 140bhp model has. I can't imagine that it would. I don't see me ever parting with mine (Ive done 5k in it already and am off to Le Mans in it in a month, hence the stickers!!) - in a few years I may go down the Premier Power route and get it up to 175bhp.

For those thinking of ordering, test them back to back and whichever you choose, it'll put a huge smile on your face.

Bit of a thread resurrection, however I would like to agree that my Supersport is also awesome clap

I've only had it 3 weeks, however I'm really enjoying finding the limits and am continually amazed by the balance. A brilliant little car that makes me biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Good to see another white car like my previous R500 with mint green stripes!

Hope you are having fun!

Mine's a 6 speed with LSD.

Early cars will have the close ratio 5 speed, while newer ones will have the standard ratio 5 speed -unless they went for the option 6.

LB14,

I'm pretty sure your car was at Caterham Midlands the other week when I was down there. Certainly an eye catching wrap you have there!

Anniesdad, have you got a delivery date yet? I think you ordered yours about a month before me so I'm curious to know how much longer I've got to wait.

Just a comment on the power vs fun factor:
I have just finished an engineswap in my S4, where I have been going from a 1.6 xflow, estimated at 100-110bhp to a 2.0 Duratec with about 160bhp at the moment.
The car is faster and more exciting, but is it more fun? I loved it before, and I love it now.
For me I think the biggest difference is the sound, where the xflow had much more character. On the road I would argue that 100bhp is plenty to have fun. On a track I always want more than I have got...

cb4798,

I paid my initial deposit on the 20th Jan and have week 19 (week commencing 5th May) for the build to start. Delivery I'm told will be in June (my paperwork from Caterham said August!). HTH

I drove to our Dorset area meet on Tuesday with the local owner of a 1962 Lotus 7 (S2?). He has tweaked the A series engine to somewhere around 100 bhp over the years. I didn't know how quick it would be with its aged mechanicals and skinny tyres but I was somewhat shocked at how he raced off and proved that on the road these cars, even with relatively low power, are plenty quick enough.

My 135 bhp or so is certainly more than enough to scare me silly on the road (and any passenger ... or is that my driving ?) although I can fully understand the track scenario of "never enough power". As I often tell passengers who think my car is quick : "If you put the available power range of Caterham models on a scale of 1 to 10, mine is a 2..."

I'm happy learning to drive mine before I think about more power and the more I drive it, the more I enjoy it. biggrincloud9

I was admiring your car at the Morgan SS. Very nice and giving me ideas for a next purchase smile (mine was the yellow westfield parked in front of you)

I´m not surprised. Lardy arsed things! My Boss bought one, I was so uninspired by the flying bedstead that I flatly refused to drive it.
We put it on the crane with a load cell, and it came out at 660kg. Oh how we laughed! laugh

There is only one.. wink

Another track day done. It reinforces how much balance they have. 175 tyres all round and it is just 4 wheel drift all day long.
Mind you I did find out that abbey corner on the silverstone GP circuit is NOT flat in 5th smile you do need a little lift to put a bit of weight back on the front wheels.

Totally torn, as on road the supersport has plenty of power for fun, but on track I could handle a bit more, but will a dura nail have the balance of the sigma???

"but will a dura nail have the balance of the sigma???"

Or get a 200+ bhp/149 lbft K series Supersport like mine that's better balanced than both??? biggrin
