It does depend on your outlook.

Before my Seven, my last sportscar was a 1971 Lotus Elan Sprint. That car seems to be considered to have pretty good handling and I understand Gordon Murray raves about the steering. The tyres it runs on are Dunlop Sp and are 155 wide and 80 section! I used to add 10 psi for track driving just to try and keep them on the rims (which weren't designed to run tubeless tyres eek ) but I had no complaints about how it handled.

The 185 60 14 Rain Experts on my Caterham have much more grip and are much less flexible.

If you read reports on Rain Experts on heavy cars there are a lot of complaints about them wearing quickly, and over heating, so it seems to me that of all the standard road car tyres available in 14 inch they are a pretty good bet for a Seven.

After much deliberation and checking out forums Ive gone for the Dunlop bluresponse sports (£56 per corner fitted, from Protyre). The MX5 Mk1 and some TVR owners have mentioned/recommended them and just from a quick whizz around the block, im really looking forward to the next few hundred miles, and beyond when they re fully bedded in. Even during a few miles around town the ride over the potted city roads and grip is so much more improved. Its amazing what you get used too. Granted I was going from a very low base - old wooded ZV3's - but hopeful the Dunlop will suits my needs and more and not break the bank.
