Thanks Pdelamare for the advice. email bounced back non delivered, which dealer does jenny work at? I'll see if I can contact her directly.
Probably too late to be of use but Caterham changed their email addresses a little while back - Jennifer.Grace@caterham.com is her new one.

Rustywhite I'm sure most people have no problem with you or anyone living out their dreams on borrowed money (as long as there is the intention to repay it!) However I'm siding with BSA have read this thread, your personal attack's are particularly odd & I for one wouldn't much fancy being on the same grid if that's how you react in the heat of the moment....

I'm sure Bert will get over it once he's turned off Jeramy Kyle, walked out of his house to check in the Garage that he does indeed own & race a Radical (or two!)
It's not quite the same as version I know, but it'll do...

PS what's a Radical?
PPS in reference to the OP of course, just in case of confusion biggrin

Bert - just for clarification... I took the jibe from the OP to you as though he knew you and it was a wink wink moment...

Is that correct ? or am I due a parrot ?

Nope, I don't know the OP. Was just having a gentle (and in fact selp-deprecating) jest! Perhaps I got it wrong.
At least I'm safe for next year with no chance of meeting up on track biggrin

What an unpleasant thread.

I suggest you allow £30,000 to so the Academy and get into a better frame of mind. It'll cost much more than £30k if you behave like a prick.

A perfect introduction and a great example of how to win friends and influence people – lots on here have valuable experience and are happy to share their insights…

No one has an issue with your financing a season of racing (indeed many were supportive) and if they did most explained why politely – but you got defensive and personal VERY quickly.
Great start to your racing…I’ll keep an eye out for you.

In addition to the car as others have said you will need to budget for, set-up, track days, testing, tuition, fuel, tyres, clothing, repairs etc. It will be £10k on top of the car – you’ll think it won’t, but it will be. Some spend much more than this.
You ‘can’ do the season for less, but you won’t be as competitive and you probably won’t have as much fun.

as I considered it i trawled and found http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... which has 2010 pov and guess fairly accurate. Yes the bare cost of Academy is only part of it and guess luck drives how much more it costs.

Good post. The Caterham community are, in my experience, hugely friendly, with a wealth of knowledge and experience at every level, from road cars through trackdays and (as far as I can tell, not done them yet!) into sprinting and full-on racing.

Just need to sort your attitude out and you'll have a great time.

+1 for Jonny

However.....

You WILL need at least another £10K if not more for Testing/set up/fuel/track days/insurance/trailer....the list goes on - and i;m speaking from very real "Budget racing" academy experience.

But don't let that put you off. The Crack and Friends you'll make are worth 1000X the cost of arseing around in a race car for a year or two. utterly priceless.
For the people that have now competed in the academy, how much did you end up spending over and above the standard fee - was it £10k extra? That's a sizeable chunk compared to the £25k for a built car.
