Thanks guys. smile

As for the aero filler cap it comes as standard with my Supersport but appears to be a £115.00 option on the R400. Personally...I'd save my money...although I did spend £110.00 on a 12v power socket. silly

It's very much worth it smile - you could do it a lot cheaper but if I'd bought my 7 new I would probably have added it as a factory option too!

Yeah, there is a method to the madness. It's a factory build, it's there, it's done, it's usable for the journey home. smile

What's the standard filler cap like? Also, what do you use the 12V socket for? Surely not a SatNav? Fag lighter?

Why not a Satnav? Very useful when touring! I use it for satnav, GoPro battery charging and phone charging. My tyre pump also runs off it .

OK, you sold me on the tyre pump. So what about the uprated master cylinder? Worth £115?

Based off the reports from the current Adacemy competitors about problems with the (new) standard one, I'd definitely go for the uprated one. I can't really say much else though as I've only ever driven with the uprated one and the AP Calipers.

Thanks guys, quite a stressful day as it happens! We had a call from my sons school as my wife and I were on the train to Birmingham. Seems he's run into a goalpost whilst playing football. His condition turned not for the better and so the drive back turned out to be quite frantic, it also rained and I had a couple of issues with the car, that I'll speak to Mids about tomorrow. Thankfully my sons condition improved and he's here at home and the car is tucked up in the garage in one piece. Will post a little more tomorrow about my thoughts on the car a hen I get time, but needless to say so far I'm hooked. Thanks again.

Also, I took him out in the car when it dried up a bit and it seemed to have the desired effect. biggrin

Glad everyone is at home and in one piecesmile nothing quite like your first proper drive in a 7 to be in the rain!

Indeed, thanks yeah my sons face is a little larger than it was yesterday but he's sound asleep now and seems content enough. Under the enclosed roof the car was very warm, had the fan on full and the heated screen on to help with misting. We got a bit wet but it was all good the missus was a trooper. Had issues with both the wipers coming away from the screen and more worryingly an erratic idle that appeared to be being caught at the last second by the ecu, although it did stall a couple of times (when it was totally inappropriate to) when I was coasting to a halt in traffic in neutral. :-(

I was told by Sevens and Classics that they insist on having no roof on when picking a car up from them, even in the wet! That was also the way at the factory smile

I'm sure the niggles will be sorted very quickly

Hi Anniesdad,

Sorry to hear your day didn't go to plan yesterday, however the main thing is that your Son is okay. How is he this morning? Sore head?

Regarding the car, forget yesterday's drive, get the hood off and get out in it in today's glorious sunshine. Ensure the heater valve is pushed in (you'll be hot anyway, so no point in exaggerating it) and enjoy. A decent drive will put everything right smile

Good to hear you got home eventually and that your son is ok!

Having your first drive with the hood on isn't ideal - it does get quite hot under there, one of the many reasons lots of us have the half hood - something to consider if you end up touring with it anyway!

With regards to the revs dropping - it's a common problem with the Supersport engine, many of us have experienced it and it seems to be fixed by adjusting the breather/throttle body to leave a bit more air in at idle. Mine used to start hunting around 900rpm, then gradually get worse to the point where it was going between around 500-1500rpm. It would eventually stall when the revs dropped too low. The plugs were also changed on mine which helped it a little, but this would seem a little pointless on a brand new car!

Once you get over the teething problems you're in for a lot of fun smile

Morning! smile

Thanks fellas. Firstly matey boy is doing much better, a good nights rest and a short drive in the car last night appear to have worked wonders. thumbup

I've driven the car in to work this morning to brighten up mine and everybody else's mundane commute. Strapped the 67 year old mother in law in (she does some part time work for us) and off we went. biggrin

So the car behaved impeccably this morning, I let it warm up a little on my driveway but I doubt this had any effect. It appears to idle at 1600rpm on the dash but my spidey senses are telling me this isn't the actual idle, I'd put it at nearer 900-1000rpm. What do yours idle at?

I picked the car up yesterday with the roof off, we drove from Little Shelton to Matlock when we started to get some rain, we persevered (wife put her hood up) over into Buxton, across the Cat and Fiddle and down into Macclesfield as we wanted to get back for our son. We then heard that he was coming home from hospital so we decided to pull over in Poynton in a covered petrol station to get fuel and to erect the hood...wasn't too bad actually but as you all know it gets hot in there, so fans were on as well as the screen. Surprisingly we didn't really mist up despite my perspiration (I was engaged in preventing the car from stalling at inopportune moments - rush hour!!) at this time, the wife is part lizard I think so loves the heat! The rain stopped 5 minutes later of course!! But we just drove back as we were, got the car home, saw to our son and had a nice cup of tea...and relaaaax.

I have to say the car is totally engaging, I was trying to enjoy the drive yesterday but I'd be lying if I said I really did. It's clear that the car has a really sharp turn in which is just fantastic and you can feel the rear then talking to you when you load it up. It's wonderful. The steering, you can think it round the bends with seemingly no steering input, the gearshift, the compliance in the suspension...all fabulous. I kept returning to the car in the garage last night just to catch a peep, got up this morning and pushed it out of the garage to wipe the windscreen etc. It looks FANTASTIC in the sunlight, so many positive comments. Neighbours who I don't really know have stopped to compliment me on the car. It creates a really great feel-good factor, schoolboys giving us the thumbs up yesterday.
smile

I'll take the car out for a drive on some nice roads I know nearby at lunch, been told to try and keep it to 6K for the first 500 miles, which is plenty for now.

Looks brilliant! Mine idles around the 1100rpm mark as far as I can remember. Keeping under 6k should be fine, but you'll be wanting to use that last 1000rpm when you find some nice tight hairpins! smile

thumbup Good work Steve - welcome to the club (what took you so long? wink).

I see that you've gone for the fastest colour, and abandoned your love of the Laz-y-Boy recliner - looks a great specification. hehe

Yeah, that idle thing, just driven it again (what a great Caterham day!) and it was hunting from cold for a couple of minutes, set off, it stalled, then it seemed to settle down to a 1200rpm idle. My reading of 1600rpm is I would say somewhat optimistic upon reflection. I put this down to my enthusiasm and stress. hehe

I spoke to Caterham Mids and they are happy to look at the car to make an adjustment to the TPS, but I'll have this done at the 1k I think and just live with it for now. They're also sending me some new wiper arms to fit thumbup as we think the spring tension isn't sufficient.

The wife is buying me a half hood for my birthday. Love that girl. cloud9
