I won't do a lot of trackdays but will do some....although that's subject to change depending on the amount of fun one has! hehe A few people have advised to take the trackday bar so it's definitely a possibility.

It'll be this with the extra strengthening piece I guess? http://caterhamparts.co.uk/product.php?id_product=...
I think that's the old bar, the new one is made by Caged and has a full X shaped bar in the center:

It won't come with the strengthening piece (that runs across the passenger side of the car and means no-one can sit there). That gives it FIA certification and means it could be used for competition. I've not seen anyone using the extra bar on trackdays.

The trackday bar is a requirement for L7C days. I've not done any myself, but I'll probably do a couple this year. You can't put a price on a bit of extra safety to be honest. The 7 doesn't have much to begin with!

That looks neat, and obviously is more fit for purpose. Lovely car by the way, I'm a Man United fan and Red/Black or Black/Red would be highly appropriate. Can't keep my eyes off the brighter ones though.

I would have loved a bright car myself, but this car came up on the used market and the high spec made me grab it right away, regardless of colour. It was all black originally but we added the red stripes for increased visibility.

I think I'd go for orange with white stripes if I had a chance, or maybe white with blue stripes!

Apologies to take this off-topic slightly, but @FramerateUK where did you get your stripe/decals from and how easy were they to apply?

My new purchase is white with a blue stripe down the bonnet. I'm thinking of changing this to a bright green stripe along with adding a stripe to the back panel and along the sides too.

We'll not hold it against you (honest!), but have you wandered down yet to the L7C LADS area meet which I assume must be fairly close to you?

Got them from Seven Speed. I used the wet method (I'll explain below) to apply them and it was quite easy! Though I will say, next time I have to apply some, I'll do a better job again.

You spray some water and fairy liquid (only a tiny bit of fairy liquid) over the area where you're going to cover, then remove the backing off the vinyl and place it on there. Then use a squeegee (I used proper 3M ones with felt on them so they didn't scratch the vinyl) to squeeze out all the water and air out from underneath.

The water means you can position the stripes perfectly, unlike applying them dry, when they stick as soon as they touch the surface.

I would suggest you have a new, sharp staney knife on standby to cut things! And get some of the foam strips that Caterham use on the bonnet area so you can remove the existing stuff and apply the stripes on top.

I'm going to have to re-apply some of mine when I buy an aeroscreen this year since I've only applied them as far as the windscreen, which will look pretty bad if it's removed!

Thanks Stu. It's not a good time at the minute!

I know some of them already from Le Mans 2005 when I went out there in a mates 911 with them, he was part of the LADS at the time, his car available for sale here - http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/c...

I've exchanged a few emails with Paul R already from the LADS and I'm going to see them in Feb at their usual meet. thumbup

Track day roll bar - it's better than the standard effort. Ditto what Caterham call trackday harnesses. I'd add lowered floor and heater . Full screen as well and half hood- just means you can do a nice long run in any conditions whilst going aero when you want.

Yeah, it's only a little bit of extra weight, that I'm planning to lose by dieting any way! Did anybody else diet before their Caterham arrived!? hehe
I didn't diet before it arrived, but now I've got it, the Tillet seats make sure i keep my weight in check. Too many pies and I wouldn't be able to fit my fat arse into it!

The Supersport comes as standard with "Race Harnesses", are these different to what you call "Trackday harnesses"?

I quite like this for if we did need a bit more luggage capacity, any idea if this would fit with the TD roll bar? I'm guessing the bar supports are the same and it's only the x brace in the middle of the bar that's different? Would anybody know?

Small world, I was on that trip! I assume the 911 was a lovely dark blue Carrera 4S, a bit of a smoker if you get my drift?

Haha, small world indeed but please wash your mouth out it was a Carrera 2S... wink It was a bit of a Smoker indeed and it was only clean on one half of the car...I was too busy knocking back stubbies to clean my half! I had loads of fun that trip, jeez it was hot though!

I am sure the race harnesses will be the right thing. Don't know about thundersport but also try Soft Bits for Sevens - they do loads of stuff.

We did a 1500 miles trip to Scotland and back with a Thundersport bag on the boot. Fits fine with the trackday bar. In fact, combined with the draft reducer and half hood, it keeps you nicely covered in the pouring rain! Be warned though, neither this bag, or the Soft Bits for Seven one are waterproof. We wrapped all our clothes in plastic bags and everything stayed dry, but they would have been soaked otherwise! You'll be surprised how much you can fit in there, we got 10 days worth of clothes and supplies in our seven during that trip.

Quick link to the video I did. Great trip, just a shame you need to go up the M5/6 to get there!

I assume "race" harnesses are the same as "trackday" ones. Caterham do a 4 point and a 6 point. I'm pretty sure they'll fit the 4 point as standard. This is what most people have. You'll definitely want harnesses, it wouldn't feel right to climb into a seven with inertia reel belts, plus the harnesses hold you in very well.

Yes- but the point is that Caterham did two sorts of harness and may still do so . The 'proper ' harness (Luke on mine I think ?) and some sort of joke harness which looked like you'd find it on a pram.

ETA - lovely video. Looking forward to my annual pilgrimage in Seven to NW coast and Hebrides in May.Appetite well and truly whetted...

We're considering heading back again this year. Might try and get a trackday in at Knockhill on the way home.

I'm due some new harnesses soon too. They're ok for time being, but they're quite worn and can be hard to adjust, they're on the list for replacement next year. I'll most probably go for the (Luke) Caterham branded ones again to keep the car original, but I was quite tempted by some Titon ones.

The Caterham 6-point race harness is the one to go for, much better than the standard 4/6 point Caterham offering.

It's worth getting 6 point harnesses over 4pt versions, as the anti submarine benefit is not to be underestimated in a car where the seating position is more reclined than in a std saloon car. If they're not required, the crotch loops/ T-bar can be left unconnected.

Rather than go for a true 6 pt version, it may be more comfortable/convenient to get a 4pt and specify two extra leg loops, which are only fabric and contain no metal parts. These are looped over the lap belts prior to buckling up.

The video is great, I've sent the link to the missus to show her just how much fun she'll be having! smile

As for harnesses, personally I'll try out the 4 point standard ones and see then if I feel more support is required.
