Certainly worth joining the Club for all sorts of reasons. I'm sure the trackdays and tuition would be great but I've never actually been on one of theirs (11 years a member and not managed it yet!) but I have done lots of other trackdays. At most you can book an instructor for a session or 2 for not too much cash, or if you wanted to take it a bit more seriously there are lots of instructors out there that would spend a day with you but obviously this gets a little more expensive!

Well I'm extremely glad to have helped beer. Just looking again at the Ad and it does look an absolute cracker. If you hadn't of snapped it up, it would have gone extremely quickly. And I reckon your money is as safe as it can be with this car.

Congratulations! clap

There he is - thanks mate, really appreciate your effort in spotting and recommending the car, as said, I don't think I would have seen it otherwise.

It was a bizarre set of circumstances on Monday. I had genuinely dismissed this car for being too far away. My mind was still set on the RS 140 from CC, but I was a bit miffed that they did nothing to sweeten the deal after dropping the no history bombshell. So I called the manager and managed to agree for them to throw in a Q/R steering wheel. Emails were exchanged and a deal agreed. It got to lunch and I gazed again at this silver one, the more I looked the more I was tempted, so I thought a little call to the owner wouldn't hurt. That went well and it was clear interest was high. There and then I decided fk it! Initially the earliest I could see it was tonight - I had and interview Tuesday evening and prep for it to do Monday night. However, I realised that the first to see will probably buy and so I cancelled the interview and did the trek Monday! laugh

I was already sold on the spec - very similar to the one at CC - the deciding factor was condition and quality of the rebuild. I was sold within 30seconds of seeing it smile

Ha ha, great story! Sounds like it was meant to be thumbup

So have you joined the L7C yet? Are you going to be coming along on some Blats? You may still be able to get yourself on GTKY7 in May, which will no doubt be extremely useful.

I was going to sort out my membership this week. I haven't really planned ahead yet, only that I want to do at least 1 or 2 tracks days. I've not read much at all on these so called 'blats' or GTKY7 - what's it all about?

Join the club before you get the car, if only to get discount on your insurance.

GTKY7 = Get To Know Your 7. It's a workshop held at Caterham Midlands where the techs will show you basics, and some more advanced bits of Caterham maintenance. Perfect for those of us who have bought second-hand rather than built.

As for the blats, there are all sorts of local and reginal events organised. One of the biggies is the Fish n Chip run in late April. I'm planning on going and, according to Blatchat, there may well be up to 100 Sevens attending!!! It's a blast on some of the best roads Wales has to offer. Have a look on BC.

As for insurance, I am 34yrs old and tried 3 companies for quotes. Results below:
REIS = £560 (w/o trackday cover)
Frank Pickles = £430
MSM = £322

Needless to say I'll be going with MSM (top service from them BTW).

Try Greenlight too. They've quoted me £290 for 6k a year on my 140.

Where do you guys stand when it comes to exceeding your mileage limit - do you keep quiet or do you notify the insurer?

I got a couple of quotes last week and I got £245 from performance car insurance with points from 2010 and 4k mileage

Depends on the insurer.

I went over last year and if you don't inform them then the only thing that happens is the excess increases if you do have an accident. I've increased the mileage for this year though, I'd suggest that you do insure for the correct amount if you can.

I feel a little miffed with the mileage actually, I'm doing say, a thousand miles on track a year (total guess, but the miles can rack up quite quickly!) and I don't think I should have to pay for those miles! But I have to give a mileage reading at the policy start date.

Fair enough. The reason I asked is because I wasn't sure how strict they are on recording the mileage. Insurers will ask for annual mileage on any car, but I've never been asked to provide mileage readings on my everyday cars, in which case, how would they know...?

Coincidently I've just called up to arrange insurance for this weekend's collection. There's all sorts I need to supply however interestingly they also need to know the mileage at time of collection.

@Framerate - how many miles do you reckon you do a year? I've gone for 5k but reckon I'll not get near that.

I went over my mileage limitation whilst on a run in The Lakes in the TVR. I called my insurers as soon as I realised and was told that my comprehensive cover was reduced to Third Party until I upped the mileage limit, and of course topped up the premium.

I insured for 3k first year and did nearly 5k. The Scotland tour added 1500 miles that we would not otherwise have done! Nothing booked for this year yet but we may well do it again. I'm making a point of getting out in the car more for whole weekends this year, so I think we'll break the 3k limit, but should be safe with 5.

Go low, you can always increase it. No point paying too much if you're not going to use it!

I've gone for a 4K mile limit to start with. I enquired about starting lower and the costs to retrospectively increase it, but when you add the admin fee to change and considering the difference it made to the premium it was cheaper to start a bit higher. Best quote so far is £262 from Frank Pickles, age 27 with 9 points in 2010 (unlucky 6 months!) - not too bad considering!
