What is possible to do with a laptop and the Caterham ECU?

I would like to know:
- what information can obtained/viewed using a laptop connected to the ECU
- What software and cables are required to connect to the ECU
- If there are ECU maps available that might be an update to what is on my car

I've heard that the Caterham ECUs are 'locked', but also very easily unlocked.

Any experts out there with information on how I can begin understanding the ECU?

The Caterham ECU is locked on a 2010 car and there's very few authorised individuals that can unlock them. You can see the basic setting, histograms, and sensors, but won't be able to change anything. It is possible to re-flash the unit, but you are then starting from scratch and would need to obtain a base map. The best route (if you want to re-map) is a new ECU, interface lead, easimap, and base map, all from http://sbdev.co.uk/Engine_Management_Systems/ECU/M... . You'll then need rolling road session with an experienced operator (ideally with MBE ECUs).

IMHO the Caterham map is not bad and I wouldn't bother remapping, but the lead and software is useful to have.
