Not entirely true. The battery size in Caterhams is under specified. They are sold as Motorbike/Ride on Mower batteries here in Germany.

With a brand new battery I see a voltage drop to 10.x volts with my 2.0 Duratec. I would say 9.5V to 11.xV is probably still fine. Anything below 9 is definitely an issue. Smaller engines should produce a lower voltage drop of course, but I would never expect to see a battery remain over 12v when cranking.
