Oh, is the backfire from the trunmpets or exhaust?
I can look at your map for any reasons, but it won't be until the weekend.
From the trumpets, some "little" (but scary) bangs (not now, but if I put back the fuel gain to 71)I can look at your map for any reasons, but it won't be until the weekend.
From the exhaust I have flames, only on warmup. (or bangs if I put back to 71)
Anyway I'll go to Portofino Lotus7 meeting this weekend (keeping the 85 fuel gain, as the car runs good), than back to mechanical to fix some leaks from the gearbox and differential service maybe.
UPDATE:
Now the car runs great.
Only one strange thing: we set to 1000 rpm x 85 fuel gain x 11 kgs for couple
After the first run the car went to 1200 rpm and about 13 kgs per couple of trumpets. The load site still remained 0 with 0.45v.
I don't know if it happened due to some correction map or simply the coils cleaned up.
Aniway it starts good and runs good and worked good for all the weekend.
Should I have to lower the minimum to 1000 or I can leave it like that?

Hello IBDAET and calimerus,
if you don't mind, I will join your discussion ;-) I also own a 2004 Caterham R400. In the winter months I will upgrade the engine a little bit (wasted spark double coil, extensive head porting, bigger inlet valves...). For this reason I have to change the mapping, too. I already have a wide band lambda sensor which I will install soon.
Calimerus, could you please answer some questions regarding the R400 967 ecu:
1. I will add the programming pins to the engine loom and build the cable this weekend. But what about the password? The ecu should be blocked in stock version. I read 1111 or 1960 as standard PWs. Did it work with you?
2. What about the R400 maps you spoke about? My Cat is quite harsh when cold and a little bit jerking below 2500rpm, most likely due to lean mixture. In higher rpms I guess that it runs a little bit too rich. Have you optimized your map with a wide band sensor?
3. Any other hints?! ;-)
Regards from Germany

Hi,
just a short feedback: IT WORKS!!!!!
I could implement the missing pins in the wiring loom and your passworks works, too. Thaaaanks a lot!
First step was to kick the distributor with double VVC coils (wasted spark) --> Works, too :-)
By the way: Do you have different R400 maps from the rolling road? Would it be possible to provide them to me?

VVC coils.. It sounds very interestingBy the way: Do you have different R400 maps from the rolling road? Would it be possible to provide them to me?
Is it difficult to fit that coils?
I was interested on that mood, but I've read "somewere" that will not work good for high revs.
Anyway I still don't have any RR map, only my original with more fuel gain
I also heard these rumours regarding VVC coils. But AFAIK they are about the very small EU3 (160HP) coils which are installed beneath the valve cover. I have the big 145HP version (see picture).
With distributor there's only one ignition output to the coil (pin 36). If you have wasted spark this pin feeds coil 1 (cyl. 1&4) and you need a second/new wire on pin 18 for cyl. 2&3 (coil 2). Just change the software settings and that's all! I bought the spare pins from SBD motorsport.
Btw.: Where can I remove the pin control? I didn't find it in the software...
