Technically a variable resistor is a Reostat, and Potentiometer is a variable potential divider. The MBE ECU uses a high impedance input (like most digital kit) and can only use voltage. To determine the position, it divides the the 5 volt reference across the pot by the proportions of resistance on each side of the wiper. Using resistance to set the pot is one way to do it but it's a bit like dividing a cake by angle, whereas weighing the pieces may give a more accurate result.

IMHO there's only one way to do it and that's with Easimap.

If the map in the ECU has it origin calibrated to an initial TPS position of 0.45Kohms then returning it to this value will simply put it where it is supposed to be.

Only if its the exact same TPS. That is why it is a flawed method.

Disagree. It is not mandated that youbuse all three terminals on a potentiometer.

The difference between a Reostat and Potentiometer is current handling capability. A Reostat is wire wound, so can handle far more significant current.
