After suffering my second leaky plastic top Caterham radiator on my Sigma 125 SV, I decided to opt for a Radtec radiator. So, I bought one from sevenspeed with the fan mounts to let me re-use my old fan. It arrived back in early August but I have only had the chance to get around to fit it this weekend.

The old one has come off no problems, but I am having some issues getting the new one on. Firstly, I dont see how to secure the fan to the radiator. As advised in a blatchat thread I have removed the plastic legs from the fan and am able to squeeze it in between the mounts on the radiator, but I really cant see how to secure it.

Also, there is an extra hole on the radiator with a screw thread (see pic). I assume this is meant for a temp control or something, but the old radiator did not have one and it will just be a large hole! Any suggestions on a) whats it for (to satisfy my curiosity and b) what I should use to blank it off.

Hi,
The hole is for a fan switch, as the Sigma doesn't use one you'll need a blanking plug - my Radtec came with one I think.

Mine came with a sensor in it rather than a blanking plug.

Also you'll need to have the overflow pipe fitted next to the top outlet

For some reason the archaic upload device won't let me show pictures even though I've clicked the forum fit button

I bought my rad direct from Radtec and it came with a bigger fan already fitted

Thanks for the advice.

I had some time today to have another crack at fitting the radtec. I ordered a blanking plug which fits fine. Then I had another look at fitting the fan. I dont know what I was missing last week but it was very obvious how to do it today! For anyone searching for how to do this in the future, the answer is to drop a nut into the slot that previously housed the feet for the fan. This then acts as a captured nut into which you can screw a bolt.

Fitted everything, filled with coolant and fired her up. Only issue was that I hadn't tightened up the drain plug in the radiator so it leaked a bit. Once that was done it took a few more top ups and it was finished. New radiator looks great!
