It was the lack I was referring to. When the new Chairman is the old Chairman's best mate you know something is wrong.
Must admit it was one of the things that made me not renew.
Seems very wrong. It's all very well people saying anyone can volunteer, but apart from requests to run the ESV I can't recall seeing any notification of upcoming vacancies and/or elections of key club officials.

It works as a Team and a real democracy where people listen to others. Sometimes other people have views that are not the same as yours and you have to accept them - strange that!
Ball cocks.
The old BlatChat for example was rife with favouritism. Of club members, suppliers, non-L7 activities... Trying to hold an alternative view and just being shouted at as a result got tedious in the end.

The trouble with clubs, is it always ends up being about the club.
So I don't do clubs any more.
I play with my toys, meet up with my mates, go for a spin, stop for a beer, kick tyres, talk about cars and bikes, and anything else that takes our fancy. We never get into politics. We're all happy! smile

Cross flow. There have been regular adverts through out the year including Treasurer, marketing and others. The fact is you just need to ask to be on the team.

But people don't they just choose to moan on here and elsewhere. Face to face you say and do nothing!

With a whole two posts to your pseduonym I find it somewhat difficult to take your PoV as gospel.
Either you're a regular PHer but don't want your usual log-in to be associated with L7C, or you've registered with PH solely to have a pop, both of which are a bit weak don't you think?
Apparently you know me, and clearly don't agree with what I've said and have logged on simply to have a moan back. Face to face you errr......say and do nothing!
Mickrick hits the nail squarely on the head.
(Crossflow is one word by the way)

Don't know either of you
But "who cares " is correct about the requests ,

I clearly remember the request in Low Flying .

Who cares?
Let's not get bogged down in 'oo killed 'oo.
Whilst I admire those who do decide to offer up their time and effort for the club, any club, I can understand why the criticism comes thick and fast from the hoi-polloi when, in this case, the product of committee/management decisions is thrust upon them, even more so when it turns out to be so apparently flawed at first.
I always thought the idea of any club or society management team was to listen to the views of the members and act accordingly but there does seem to be a whiff of "When we want your opinion we'll give it to you" about the new site.

I joined the L7 club in 1989, great club, great people, by around 2000 it was getting more like the free masons.
I left around 2007 as by then Blatchat was my only activity but when it went members only, it was on a downward spiral.
Now I'm using the 7 a lot more and had been thinking of rejoining but the goings on with the new site and forum have convinced me not to go back. It's now run solely as a business, not as a meeting point for like minded soles.
And the help I've had off various open forums over the last couple of years has far outweighed any lotus 7 club savings,

Blatchat was a good forum however its downside was it was developed and run by one person.

I never understood the need for a special forum as there are many great free forums progs available

How much did yjey spend on the new forum, £30K!!! You have to be joking, what a waste of club funds

Half of that went on the migration of the old forum data.

The rest probably went on the membership functions, which are bespoke.

So not much left over for the forum, hence the vanilla drupal one. Not saying that was a wonderful choice, but I can see where the money went. Thinking it was £30k for a forum is a bit dumb. Or bitter. Or both.

Not bitter nor dumb.

Of course there is the migration however I still say £30k was high

high based on what? If you take a typical contractor rate for something at this level then how many days would that get you? You also have to remember its not just about someone with drupal knowledge (or any other modern stuff) its about someone being able to understand code that someone else has done. Now I dont know anything about who did it or who but unless their was incredibly detailed documentation it would take a long while to figure out the data structure, figure out how to keep the linking and other such key features.

For those with no programming/migration experience I agree it would seem high but having both I would say it is not. It may also be 30k for development and initial warranty period. Just because people know loads about cars doesnt mean they know anything about the tech side of things to that level - i know because I have the skills typically the wrong way round for a car forum.

If its been built well from ground up then means anything can be changed quite easily as ultimately (i imagine been on hols 2 weeks) its the skinning the people are arguing about (look/feel) which can be tweaked typically quite easily.

Surely if people really want it to succeed the way to do that is eloquently post what perhaps can be changed and *why*. Nothing worse than 'dont like it'

The latest fixes to the 7 club site are live now. Still not perfect, but much more usable now.

Hmm, as I can't sleep I did a post count for Saturday 11th October:
12 posts on Pistonheads Caterham Forum
20 posts on 7-DNF (with 10 of those being from the two who set it up)
107 posts on blatchat (excluding posts in For Sale, Wanted, bugs and suggestions threads)

Not sure what your terms of reference for "not very busy" are? rolleyes
