I've still got a 7 and still chat with 7 club members regularly, was only speaking with 2 of the lads yesterday.

My long term membership lapsed a while back through life getting in the way and although I always say "I'll do it tomorrow" and rejoin it just hasn't happened.

When I returned off holiday last week I read about the new site and thought this may be the jolt I need to sign up again.......yep the forum is only part of it but as I don't compete anymore or buy 7 bits it makes up a big part of it along with maybe Low Flying.........which I have to say improved immensely in my latter months of membership, whilst the forum seemed to go quieter and less of a lads car club banter site.

Anyhow, I must be missing something. I keep reading the forum is now really quiet but from what I can see it just can't be as quiet as it appears, can it?

Just popped on now and there appears to be only 2 posts in Chitchat for the 22/10/14, both posted pre 01.00 am.

Do you have to do or click on something else to see more recent posts, as there just has to be a shedload more at 12 noon surely.

A simple click on "Chitchat" doesn't seem to back this up though.

Is there something I'm not doing right here? Or is it more complicated to see the content than a normal forum?

Thanks

Kenny.....just.....just don't. You'll start "her" off again with all that crap about objectification of ginger cyclists.
Have to say you've got a point though. Similar thing happened on a Land Rover forum I used to frequent when it rebranded itself with the tag line "the family-friendly Land Rover site"
First post on the new forum was from a long standing contributor which went something like....
"Family friendly? Do fk off. It's a forum for middle aged blokes talking about Land Rovers, beer and tits for a bit of light relief from the bloody family"
Banned shorty after.

Kenny, there are lots of updated posts today and some new ones as well. I suspect that as you are no longer a member it may not show all the hot topics. wink
I may be wrong. It did happen once I think. Will give you a bell soon but I'm in my local atm annoying a lot of ladies that lunch but smell of wee. smile

Coolbiggrin...speak soon me old mate.

CK. Good story about the LR site, made me laughsmile
The lads on the 7 site were always a good bunch in general. Anyone in need of a lift was helped, they'd always throw a few bob at causes that deserved it and in general had a good thing going both in terms of informative postings and the hard to balance mix of "banter", the latter being a lot harder to pull off on a forum than it is in real life.

Sad really that a small minority of people as you say feel duty bound to take up a gauntlet on behalf of someone/something else and make a PC stance for the sake of making a PC stance.
It usually ended up with the "banterist" being called a racist, bully, troll, whatever when you were only and most positively joking. The old adage of "only say on a forum what you'd say face to face in real life" is something I do religiously.

Another example of this on another forum only happened to me at the weekend.
I'm a member of a Spanish expat forum where I find it useful to pick info up for our stays in Spain.
I returned from a month away last week and a bloke asked me how the trip went.

I replied and as an aside posted a pic of a little cat (sorry 'bout mentioning catssmile ) that landed on our doorstep up in the mountains the day we arrived.
He was as scraggy as fook with running eyes etc. I'm not a pet fan but felt sorry for him. He could hardly eat or drink anything at first he was so ill.

Well I was chuffed to bits that after 2 weeks he was on Langostinos, steaks, chicken, lamb and washing it down with loads of goat milk.
He was a shiny big fat bugger when we left...........I also left 30 euros with a local Spanish mate to get him some cat biscuits and leave a drop of water for him now and again when we'd gone.

I got a lot of posts saying well done, nice one etc............but then one guy posts saying I'd done the cat no favours and that I was totally wrong in doing what we did........as the cat will now be in big trouble, I should be ashamed of myself etc..

I have since been banned for a month for my reply (which I'd have also said face to face) but the guy was simply trying to point score and failed.
Cat would have been dead a month ago without doubt.
Yet it was my post that got me into trouble.........not his annoying and off the mark nitpicking.

Kenny, you wouldn't have to put up with that sort of cr4p on the Scouse expat forum teacher

I've been a L7C member for over 15 years and for now will probably continue to be, but the changeover to the new forum has been a complete disaster and sadly has made me question my long-term membership. I really hope the club management team are following this thread because unless somebody wakes up to the current issues IMHO the club is going to fade into obscurity.

The reason that the forum appears so quiet is that the changeover to Techtalk has not only made Techtalk invisible unless you log on, but it's also limited how much of the rest of the forum you can view ... I'm not sure the MT realise this. Posting has been members-only for quite some time but historically you could view everything without being a member, now it appears that unless you're logged on you get a very limited view across the usually accessible forum areas. I suspect this is a problem created by the new login restrictions, but whether anyone realises it is something else. The result though is that for any potential member, although the main website looks much improved the forum really does look dire. Improvements that have recently been made to enhance the forum are mostly only visible when logged on, which of course non-members (and potential new members) will not see.

Nowadays websites and forums are a central part of the vast majority of clubs and associations, it's changed substantially since even only a decade ago but the management team of the L7C don't appear to be as clued into this as they should be and still believe that the club forum is only of minor importance, Low Flying is the only thing that is really important. I've (previously as an AR) been at meetings where "Blatchat-only memberships" have been discussed and repeatedly the figures are thrown out about how few club members are actually registered on the forum, and then how few of them actually post ... there's no figures though about how many copies of Low Flying never get read.

For the last couple of weeks I've avoided posting on the new site, I think I've only posted once since the changeover, and I've started to realise that after nearly 2 decades of Caterham ownership my posting on BC has been to ask for help about things non-7 related (information which can be sought elsewhere if I try) or to offer my own knowledge regarding things that are 7 related, I'm therefore not losing much by not being active on the site. I hadn't seen it that way before, but I suspect there's a lot of the longer standing members in the same situation. I've casually viewed the site and a couple of days ago, of the 30 most recent threads 12 were posted in the Suggestions or Bugs sections of the forum, not good. The forum is starting to look like a Locost build where as contributors have ideas they can be implemented and see what happens.

I'd also felt that in the last couple of years the forum had become dominated by the same people posting over and over again, not that they don't have something to say, but more that the posts were appearing almost "for the sake of posting", rather than adding any meaningful depth. I've very much been pro-Club and I know that although reading some of the comments on here it would suggest BC gets massively moderated, sources in the know have always suggested it's hardly moderated at all, and has little reason to be. Relative to the number of threads and posts since the beginning a very small number have been pulled, the reality though is that those members that have had an axe to grind or have moved away in disgruntlement, usually end up posting on here, that's not intended as a slight on those individuals, just an observation.

Thanks Stu for clearing that one up. I think it's a bit daft to leave it as it is then, as if prospective new members are only seeing 2 or 3 new posts on the main forum a day then it's not giving off the impression of a busy or even useful site.

Surely the powers that control this know about it?

Does non membership also make the search engine throw results up in chaotic and "couldn't be arsed trawling through that lot" order?
It used to show results in date order.

I know you've done more than your bit for the club Stu and not broadcast it, I'd hope the MT would listen to you and people like you.

OK, I admit I did like the old format, even though it was classed as old hat.........but at least it worked and functioned with ease and with speed.

That's odd. I've just looked without being logged in and there are about 40 threads with new posts in the last 24 hours. The 'last post' timestamps on the forum index are completely out of kilter though e.g. at the moment it says the last post was made in a particular thread at 11.46am today, when there are 30 threads with newer posts since then including the thread that timestamp refers. Bizarre!

I am a blatchatter and part of the club due mainly to saving a bit on insurance. I can't get the new forum to work and in fairness haven't put much effort into it.

Definitely a bit of a clique on there with some literally spending their lives posting. Went to a club meet once which was err...interesting.
I have heard things like this said quite a few times.
If you are near to another area It may be worth trying one that is not your "local" one.
I have travelled an hour plus to attend some other area meets and it has been well worth it. If you are lucky enough to have a few near you maybe drop the area organiser an email and see how they sound.
