I was hit head on by a bloke on my side of the road yesterday.

He was overtaking a cyclist on a fast bend. He hit me about 70mph the Police reckon.

A lucky escape for me but the car looks pretty mullered - chassis bent, suspension ripped off, engine pushed back in the chassis and rear suspension smashed.

Over all it's a bit sick.

Looks like I'll be in the market for another car in the next couple of weeks - Ford Sigma or Zetec this time I reckon with a budget around £15000 - keep your ears to the ground for me please!!

Bloody hell!

You'll be dissapointed that your current pride and joy has been written off but look at the bright side, you appear to be completely fine and you can always get another car.

I'm amazed it didn't do more damage!

Sore left knee and shin, shoulders and neck are uncomfortable to say the least and I've still got a rather impressive headache!

I am very happy you are just fine as the crash should have been pretty bad.

Glad you are fine smile but it looks like you had a lucky escape. A lot of energy will have gone through the steering, so please don't ignore what may initially seem to be minor discomfort.

I wiped the wheels off my seven a few years back - I felt fine afterwards, but by the end of the week I was in a lot of pain around the shoulder. It got worse over the following weeks and took 18 months, with many physio session, to make a full recovery.

Hope the insurance claim isn't too much hassle, and you get back in a seven soon!

Sad to see, but it sounds like you've come out of it better than you might have done and that's whats important. Good luck in finding your replacement!

Looks like you were very lucky- not lucky enough for the other guy to have stayed at home that day but lucky he wasn't giving the cyclist more room!

Hope the insurance payout is fast and fair

Lucky 🍀 always makes you think.what if!!! From what we can see no matter what the speed it was too fast, I know we all do it,I'd be on the phone looking for a replacement hire car at the other parties expense whilst a suitable replacement is found plus the on going physical and psychological damage. Just imagine our daughters out on that country road on a hack!!! I've had more than my fair share of my own recklessness near misses and cyclist near misses out in the sticks, I stopped riding my R1 in London after 1 too many blameless near misses and arrogant cyclists who must drive taxis for a living. Lady luck rode with you that day, I try to take her out everytime!!

K20erham,so you've had near misses with "arrogant" cyclists and it's all their fault?
Time to slow down maybe if you can't stop in time.

I actually wasn't travelling very quickly having just come out of a 30 limit in the village -the other driver was tanking it to get past the cyclist, the poor cyclist was absolutely blameless.

Wow! Really sorry to see your Caterham in that state, but you're okay and that's the main thing. thumbup

What car was the other driver in? And how much damage did it cause him? And out of interested, how were the police?

Proves how strong Caterhams are.

Why don't you want another K?

Don't forget the Zetec wasn't an official factory fitted engine. Sigmas are relatively recent too; can they be bought for £15k now?

I'm not saying I don't want another K Series, they're fantastic! I just might try something different this time round.

He was driving a Suzuki 4x4 thing. He ended up on his side after hitting the bank after me. Mostly damage to his front right where he walloped me.

The Police were fantastic, very helpful, sympathetic and were on my side from the very start. The cyclist was golden too, he left the Police in no doubt as to the Suzuki drivers culpability.
