Following the success of my last thread about a car in the classfied has anyone on here already bought (or know anything about) the dark green Academy with cage in North Yorks?

Thought I'd check before I spend 50p a minute on a PH 'phonesafe' call to find out it sold last month.. :-)

ta.

Aha.. I knew you were joking because it's in mine. Well, as of yesterday it is, anyway - finally I bought a car.

I drove it back down the A1 last night and am itching to go out again but first I need to move the driver's Tillet as it won't slide forward enough for me. I'm also in two minds about the cage; the plan was to switch it for an FIA bar but it's growing on me. I need to decide though as I want a half hood for it.

After 24 hours with it I'm very happy - there's some diff whine between 40-60 which was worrying me but reading up seems pretty common. I had wanted something brighter, yellow (yours!) orange etc but having seen how filthy it got after the test drive I'm less concerned. Also toying with joining L7C (in spite of the discussion on here) so I can read up on a few things.

We had a similar issue on the seat position. Before you move the seat rails, pop open the pedal box and see if there is any ability to bring the pedals forward through the linkages. The team at Caterham managed to get Mrs TheHoof who is 5' 4" a comfortable driving position on collection day.

Hello 'thehoof',

What an obvious idea that I didn't think of. The distance to the wheel is spot on so if I can adjust the pedals that would do the job. I'll have a read to see what's possible then try that next weekend. Ideally I'd like the seat a fraction more upright but that's lower priority.

Thanks for the tip.

Welcome to 7 ownership. As already suggested you can move the pedals back a bit, it can be a bit fiddly as you may need to shorten the actuating rod on the brake master cylinder as I have on both my cars http://sevenracing.co.uk/Caterham_Build_Diary/Entr... it's worth doing it right - get the driving position where you want it, move the steering wheel if necessary (it has a limited range of movement on the sliding column, then get the pedals set up.

If you want to incline the tillet you can easily put some spacers under the rear fixings.

Worth joining the Lotus 7 Club, lot's of help and support available there plus a few useful discounts.

No problem. Tips I got from watching the pros do it:

- If you move the accelerator you'll need to fiddle with the cable to adjust the idle.
- Brake & clutch are easier as they're hydraulic & there is quite a large amount of thread on the levers (IIRC the clutch as 2 holes on in the pivot mechanism)
- Remember to adjust the position of the brake light switch so it comes with the slightest of pressure on the pedal.

Good luck!

That's brilliant, I'm glad you finally found a car and that one looked nice, good money too!

A bit of diff noise is pretty normal to be fair, all three of mine have done it!

With my last two cars (both of which had Tilletts) the runners were just a bit gummed up, I removed the seats, cleaned and greased the runners and they worked perfectly - worth a try maybe?

Do join the club, it's worth it in my opinion.

You might want to have a look at the Caterham & Lotus Seven Owners Group on Facebook too, just search for it and request to join.
