Hi all ...well im really enjoying my old Caterham at the moment ( well wen it stops raining ) and now ive got the water temp probs sorted ive started to take it on further trips, but I went to jump into it this eve it was just after sun down and for the 1st time switched the heated screen on .
The switch lit up but the windscreen did not clear so was just wondering what to check 1st

I wondered if my screen worked for a while, because it didn't do instant demisting like a Mondeo I owned once. In the end, I found that leaving it on for a while does clear the screen and stops it misting again. I only realised how good it was when following another Seven without the heated screen

So it might be working already.

Have you actually got a heated screen fitted? Look very carefully and you should be able to see the heating elements in the glass. Not uncommon for (expensive) heated screens to be replaced on damaging with (cheap) non-heated ones.

Next thing to check then is the connections under the scuttle and/or voltage at the terminals for the screen.

It's got a 10amp fuse. Should be labeled on your fusebox, 4th down ftom thr top if standard.
Check 12v at the under scuttle supplies. One black and one blue? Also worth a continuity check/ resistance check of the screen.

I found starting the car up and putting the screen on heat helped after I had deiced the side screens and rubbed the lights, but it's not an instant feature.

With a roof on, where the screen mists up, leaving the headed screen on stops this. So is worth having.

I managed to check the all the fuses today and all ok , so tried following the wiring from the screen ... blue wire passenger side... followed it into cockpit under dash and its just hanging there not conected !!
Should there be anymore wires coming out of the screen??

You should have one wire (one blue, one black)coming out of each side of the screen and heading off downwards through the scuttle. There should be a corresponding wire under the scuttle to join to this. The fact that one is not connected to anything I would suggest is your problem !
Have a hunt around for any loose wires of the same colour that may have been lost behind the windscreen wiper motor. It could be that when the screen was refitted it got missed ( mist - no pun intended !)

Fuse should be 10amp in the fuse board. The two wires connect to the screen. I drilled my scuttle so bullet crimps would fit, then it's removable. Twisting the wires together would tell you if it worked for a temporary test.

You should just be able to connect the wire to the corresponding connector under the dash. It will be there, but may be 6" from the cable from the screen.

You can see the LHS cable on my website here look for the photo beneath the one of the fuse box - the black wire with the white connector on it is what you are looking for.
