Can I get this any cleaner ?
Discussion
Recently took my collector and silencer to a local engineering firm / metal finishing company to get it all properly polished.
Pleased with the results and it actually cleaned off a lot of the micro scratches left behind by the wire-wool and autosol method.
Just wish I didn't waste all the effort trying to do it by hand first.

Sorry for the poor quality phone camera.
This was taken right after I fitted the exhaust back on last weekend. I didn't get the primaries done as they were already pretty shiny so you can see the colour difference here. After one drive the collector was the same colour anyway so it doesn't matter much. I prefer the discoloured look over full on on chrome anyway.
Not a massive improvement over yours but there is some difference. I guess over time and with use it'll become harder to tell any difference. Suppose it comes down to how fussy you are and how much you want to avoid manual work. For reference, the guy charged me £50

Took a while longer than quoted to get it back (over a week) and the finish is ok, but certainly not anywhere as good as the image posted earlier from http://www.caterhamr500.co.uk/
For these reasons, I'd recommend that you do a search on google for metal polishers local to you.
I had mine polished when it was new, before installation. I just used whatever local metal finishing place that quoted the best price. Quite pleased w/ result.
I have since had considerable "blue-ing", but I like that look, so have done nothing further beyond the occasional soap/water/microfiber treatment.

I find this thread deeply disturbing. You all have Caterham Sevens. One of the most brilliant, electrifying drivers cars ever conceived - and one of the plainest looking.
Getting all "detail-y" over a seven is like getting Kelly Brook into bed, then complaining she's st at crosswords. Sort it out you lot, and spend the Autosol budget on a set of C spanners and some scales.

Stop worrying about us and our polishing chat and go back to your discussion about whether you should have salt and pepper on the table - much more interesting.Getting all "detail-y" over a seven is like getting Kelly Brook into bed, then complaining she's st at crosswords. Don't know about the crossword but I would compare it to getting into bed with Kelly B and feeling her hairy legs and armpits - got to keep it trim and smooth. Fine, but these car being low to the road and especially if used in the wet deteriorate and look scruffy & tired very quickly.
