Actually, spending a few quid up front getting the exhaust polished means that you spend far less time cleaning it. It just takes care of it self. If anything else, its the opposite of detailing.
Bingo.

I find this thread deeply disturbing. You all have Caterham Sevens. One of the most brilliant, electrifying drivers cars ever conceived - and one of the plainest looking.

Getting all "detail-y" over a seven is like getting Kelly Brook into bed, then complaining she's st at crosswords. Sort it out you lot, and spend the Autosol budget on a set of C spanners and some scales.
Would it make you feel better if I told you that my Seven has paint chips , starred wings , dull carbon and a sheen of cowsh**t on the exhaust? Bloody goes though ....

Jesus you lot, chill!

I wasn't actually wanting to start "zorstgate" - I haven't suggested modifying anything from factory spec, and I've never even mentioned anything as verboten as Westfield.

I had mistakenly thought that since this wasn't Blatchat, I could make a suggestion that driving / spannering a 7 is more fun than polishing it without suffering from aggro. I now realise I was wrong - so please accept my unreserved apology for any upset caused. I will now go back to The Lounge, with my fellow heathens =)

Some that manufacture exhausts don't even clean off the weld discolouration,

and most customers don't seem to care.

Sorry if my tongue in cheek comment was perceived as some vicious dig- actually I am insanely jealous that mine doesn't look as tidy as yours. OK ?

I actually like polishing. Some people think it's tedious. I don't have a problem with that. Oh, and I like spannering and driving too.
Detailing is part of maintenance, and you see things that need attention, that you'd probably miss if you just drive the thing.

Just saying... smile

Blimey that looks 'fat' (that's what a teenager said to me the other day - ' a fat tool ' were his exact words )
I like that a lot.

oh to have a teenager (ideally female, attractive and consenting!) to say I have a fat tool... even if she was referring to the car's exhaust and bespoke side stripes...! cool

Looks like you've got a pretty smooth finish on that. Did you paint it on with a brush?

yup! I gave it two coats - first with the final strokes in one direction, the latter at right angles. Close-up, you can see the brushstrokes but you need to be get close up! Even with my pedantic standards, I'm happy with it.

guess it might but it hasn't to date (near enough a year; albeit a low mileage one - ~2000 miles)

Does this count? Ceramic coated and finished in white. Matches the white stripe over the center of the car.
