Will dedicated forums take over from car clubs?? Probably......
Highly unlikely imo as FB in isn't present form can't offer the same sort of continuity as a dedicated car club can. Both have their place as both fulfil different criteria.
Didn't mean Facebook based forum but a standard forum not tied to any clubs.

Still don't think it wil replace a club. People like to belong and wear badges and get magazines and get discounts and get pissed off with other members and then flounce and leave. Not the same if you just use a forum.

You missed the bit about being swamped with links to vague Google searches and then left to figure out their relevance.

Sad thing is, there need never have been a need for these "break away" groups if things had have been handled differently in the first place.

Not being 16 nor wishing to be groomed, I'll hang back with ludites.
All the luddites left long agosmile And I'd assume the current Blatchat won't entice them back, especially with its lack of content at present.
Facebook is mostly 20 to 40 year olds these days. The 16 year olds have moved onto newer things!
Ahhh magic I might give it a whirl if I can be groomed by a 40yr old biggrinbiggrin

Sadly this is all too true.

If we forget the issues with the basics of the design of the new blatchat, they have still failed to listen to feedback from users,,who wanted just some basic features we all take for granted, on the may forums we frequent.

I have made countless comments and recommendations re the hyperlinks and page forwarding, but they all seem to be lost of the l7 club.

My very basic point, and I have strived to make people understand on the L7club is the following:

The one basic rule for any website, is that when people follow links from your website, ie the l7 club, what you never ever do, is allow that user to be sent away from the originating web site.

And yet after all the changes this simple and basic fundamental has been ignored.

Every link on the l7 club navigates you to the new website link, thus navigating you way from the l7 club!

If they can't fix these basic problems, they might just have a major down turn in the contributions, and which sadly is what has happened!

The new website forum is the worst thing the management have ever done. It is convoluted if you want to copy, check your spelling and a host of other functions that are the norm elsewhere. You can't delete a post nor can you directly reply to a post. It is without doubt the worst format they could have chosen. Why they chose it is a mystery but you'll never get an answer. Sad as the old forum for all its faults worked well.

Much harder to get kicked off the FB groups. There is only one rule - no L7C MT members on Tech Talk or Marketplace.

I am sure some will manage to get kicked off.........its only a matter of time before someone does just keep trying hard to hack off the other members and it will happen smile

So... If I helpfully post a link on FB Techtalk to BC Techtalk (where the question has in all probability already been answered in detail), is that OK, or will the post be deleted or my membership of the FB group be revoked?

Just interested as that is something I may well do as it is more efficient as well as demonstrating the good things on BC.

I (like many people) don't use FB. I prefer dedicated forums.

It will be a sad day if FB takes over BC or PH.

I use Facebook to the extent that I haven't even got a profile picture! I prefer a forum such as PH to browse. Will be good to see how it goes. At least it's another option. Cheers guys.

For all it's faults and it has plenty, Blatchat is still a great forum and if you (can) ignore the habitual posters that seem to dominate it it is still a great source of knowledge and technical information. Yes there are far too many non car related threads on there but you get this on most forums and for me it's £40ish well spent for Blatchat alone. I have been a member 13 years & I can't see it disappearing in my lifetime.

You make it sound like I rule with an iron fist Guy!? eek

I'm keen to avoid some of the arguments and drama that PH sees but, to date there hasn't been a problem.

Anyone being naughty would get plenty of warnings and I would see banning somebody as a last resort.

I think the biggest trouble with any forum or group is that people type / say things they wouldn't to someones face (we've all been guilty of it at some time or other!)and things that are written in good humour can be taken the wrong way and offence taken leading to the arguments we've all seen.
