Hi,

I hope you can help. I'm currently in Penzance, Cornwall, and will be driving the Caterham back to Hampshire tomorrow, but my wiper cable has snapped. We've driven the 15 miles or so back to the B&B with string to operate the wipers!

I'm hoping tomorrow will be dry, but I still need to get it sorted quickly.

So does anyone have a spare wiper mechanism I could buy? Even better if you're located between Lands End and New Milton as I could pick it up tomorrow.

Otherwise, where could I buy one from?

Ps. Today we drove from Lowestoft to Lands End in the Caterham to raise money for the British Heart Foundation and apart from the wipers, the car performed flawlessly. It was so comfortable and a joy to drive long distance. It took 10 hours in total!

You could just remove the windscreen and use a Crash Helmet

Dan

I've got one, in Newbury if it helps. Is it definitely the cable snapped? it's not uncommon for the outer sheath to come undone from the motor

Can't remove the windscreen! I've got nowhere to put it!

Thanks F355. I removed the nut that connects the outer cable cover to the motor and there's no cable in there, so I'm assuming it's snapped. I'll be in touch about your cable. I doubt I'll have time to get to Newbury tomorrow.

You could always post it or turn it upside down and strap it to the Roll bar with a bit of padding

I managed to get back home before the rain set in, just! The car is now safely back in the garage.

But I must get the wipers sorted out. Someone mentioned to me that they use a Land Rover Defender cable, is this correct? Something like this?

F355GTS, could you provide some information from yours, or would you like to sell your cable? I hope to remove the wiper motor and cable this evening.

Glad you got home safe!

On a separate note, you might want to try some G Technique G1 Smart Glass.

It'll make your wipers a bit juddery for a few miles, but it does wonders for visibility. I've coated all our cars in with it and re-apply every 20k or so. It's so good that you can really drive without your wipers on at all if you had to.
