Ah yes, the old "You're not a member so you're not allowed to express an opinion" thing.
Don't you geddit? Maybe, just maybe, if some of the whinging and moaning got listenened to, and was given more credit than just being axe-grinding and sniping, then perhaps there's a fighting chance those people wouldn't actually be ex-members.
You remind me of those idiotic hoteliers one sees on various TV shows whose businesses are haemorrhaging guests, and their response is "Good,we can do without their type"
Tell you what, instead of having a handbags at dawn dialogue why don't you PM me and tell me what your main concerns are/were ? I know you are a former member of course and if you genuinely would consider rejoining but have real concerns which are preventing you then tell me what they are ?

This has nothing to do moaning and whingeing it has to do with passionate and concerned people sharing their opinions, why does it always have to create such a reaction with people being attacked, as has been said, if people didn't give a st they wouldn't comment.

I'm on 3 other forums related to other interests I have and I have to say that it appears to me that when ever you get a bunch Caterham owners together on a forum, people become reactionary, defensive and start attacking each other, what the fk is wrong with (some) people.

Haven't people heard of being civil for gods sake.

Crikey Terry, have you heard the words Pot Kettle and Black in a common phrase!

Its very sad to see what been happening to the L7C and the migration of its members, but the world we live in offers us lots of choice.
I think you must have a different set of membership graphs than I've seen, unless you are referring to the only significant drop, which was in the number of Canadian members over recent years?

It appears that its OK to attack or take the piss out of people, but NOT ok to confront them. confused

There's nothing that hasn't already been said before, here or in other threads.
Granted, BC is only one part of the Club, but it was was becoming bland and beige whilst still saying something about the club. This in itself was a multi-dimensional process. On the one hand, the intolerance for anything that could be considered even remotely controversial was getting more and more conspicuous, whilst other members were allowed to continue their own form of polluting BC.....namely posting thread after thread of vague non-motoring external links without any actual comment or discussion, and yet because it wasn't deemed offensive it was allowed to go unchecked. As Aves once commented, spoiling other's enjoyment of the forum includes more than just ginger jokes and links to the M&S Christmas adverts. So things started getting personal and instead of taking that as a sign of people's displeasure, they were told to go and sit on the naughty step and to stop being so jolly nasty.
Cycling threads.....more and more often there were discussions and about bloody cycling. I don't mind cycling, I even do it myself now and then, really I do. But it was the reaction to anyone who didn't outwardly and wholly support the non-powered two-wheeler in anything like a Car v Cyclist thread....cycling is the salvation of mankind and car drivers are evil apparently. And this is a car club?! Comment on cycling if you like, but don't start putting it above the core activity of the club, namely driving, and certainly don't start rounding on those club members who are impartial to or don't want to rigourrously support it. Please don't say it was people just "discussing" things....there are/were one or two posters who clearly felt, whether they realised it or not, that car drivers are always at fault in collisions with anything smaller or less powerful than themselves and were apparently more than happy to fight that corner.....on the forum of a car club of all places. Utterly ridiculous and fundamentally wrong, and again allowed to proliferate where discussions of other subjects were not.
But it's not just BC.
I could go on, but I'd be accused of axe-grinding or sniping......in itself ironic, don't you think?;-) (Actually I'm off to work)
PS. It occurred to me that maybe the club needs a new overall identity and doesn't need "fixing" as such.
Look at Top Gear...that was getting stale, it was cancelled, then came back all new and fresh and a bit risqué at times, and over time everyone loved it and it just took off. Oh hang on....not everyone loved it. Some people still wanted William Woolard stating boot capacities.

And as I always say at this point of the discussion, it's just an internet forum of a poxy car club. I never saw any of that stuff as vexing. It is what it is. Lots of 7 chitchat and lots of non-7 chitchat of things that seem to be in common with people interested in 7s. IT, Landrovers, cycling, F1, DVLA, spitfires... The whole BC angst just passed me by happily ensconced in cotton wool in my ivory tower biggrin

I'm a member and don't really slag the club off - in fact I rather like it. I'm just not a fan of some of the more prolific posters, it doesn't make me want to not renew though as there are other things I get out of the club. It just makes me reluctant to use the forum much.
I've not been on there much of late but I think the person you're referring to seems to have vanished.
Which is a bit of a shame really. I rather liked JK. And didn't like that he was somewhat picked on. Although I can also understand why his "style" might have grated for some.

There is a bit of a grumpy "oooh the world has gone all PC and you can't call the chinky the chinky anymore" gang but I hope he didn't get bullied into not posting.

Like you I did enjoy his input but it did get OTT and to an extent OCD so I'm not surprised many got pissed off with him

I hope not too but, the fact that Smollet and I never mentioned a name but you knew who we were talking about says quite a lot about his "posting style"

I think they should tbh. If they want to take on the job then it's a perk I can live with.

Lots of people contribute to the club in lots of ways, some of them more significantly than some of the ARs. Not all of them get a freebie.
Look, I just don't like it. I don't begrudge anyone who takes advantage of it, but for me it's a bit Catch 22.
ARs are there to head up a local group of members, yet from a certain point of view they're not members themselves because they haven't paid the standard membership fee.
And of course now there's a rival "club" where everyone can get free membership.....it's called Facebook.

biggrin Apex, why moan about a UK based club when a) your not complaining on 'its' pages and b) the majority of members are in the UK

The 7 club is what it is, I have met some great people on it and some real arses but you know, its a microcosm of the world we live in

Facebook is not a club it does not have a constitution, PH is a community as is Facebook........a virtual community, I doubt that many opinions would be expressed in such a way in 'real life'

As for AR's getting free membership I suspect for many AR's if they are actually paid membership for all would be a lot more so giving a little to those who do care is the minimum the membership can do

In the end clubs and forums are communities and communities are about relationships and shared interests. As I have said before its easy to make smart arse maligning remarks behind the safety of our computer screens, but how does that help build community?

When we engage in passing judgement, sarcasm and derogatory comments about the live style choices of are members we have moved WAY past the shared interests that bring us together.

I agree the L7C gives free membership as a sign of saying (Thankyou) as has been said what's wrong with that?
