The 270 is a 135bhp Sigma not the 125 that some thought it would be...still no 485 in uk spec.

There's a big gap (not least in price) between the 420 and the 620R, and although you can get an R pack there's not a R420 in the usual understanding (e.g. including wide track suspension) unless I'm misreading.

The suspension upgrade packs seem to come with the wide track bits based on the info in the price list.

I can't see mention of wide track except in relation to the SV, just "sports suspension"

By the time you spec up a 420R the way most want it the price is eye watering!!!!

Don't get me wrong, I love high powered Caterham's but really when you add up the sum of the parts that make them (and there aren't many) they are an absolute rip off!

I could only find one plus point in the new range, standard paint comes in the S and R packages.

However, the nearest equivalent to my Seven would be £3000 more than 4 years ago.

It is nice to see that the CSR260 is still available after the rumours that it may be dropped. Mind you, my spec is now £51k...

On the plus side, the more expensive the new cars become, the stronger the second-hand prices should be.

Interestingly, I actually think the 620R is a plus point as well. It is the nearest equivalent to my R500, yet with similar options it is probably around about the same price I paid for the R500 almost exactly 4 years ago, but it has nearly 50hp more. Admittedly the R500 was an SV, and the 620R is only S3, so that would be a £2000 difference if they would let me have an SV smile.

I'm hoping in a couple of years they will relent and build me the first 620R SV.

I'm pretty sure Book a Track are getting a SV 620R as a new addition to their rental fleet, I didn't know they were unavailable to the general public.

I'm not a great fan of the new model structure, and it looks to me that prices have generally increased a fair chunk as part of the process.

I had (to my knowledge) the first factory built SV R500 Duratec (no. 150), as it was originally only available as an S3. It took some discussion with them to agree that I could order a factory built SV. It was also certainly the first SV to have the new BMW diff, as they had great trouble getting it to fit which caused delivery delays.

When they announced the 620R, I spoke to Caterham about getting the first SV 620R, but they refused on the basis that all the 620Rs were going to be on the S3 chassis. At the time I considered just ordering an S3 (as I can fit/drive one just fine, despite being relatively lardy) but I liked the extra passengering opportunities that an SV provides, and if you have a car like this it seems remiss not to share the experience with as many people as possible.

Edit - looks like you are right, Book-a-Track do have a 620R SV on order! Looks like I may need to badger Caterham again smile.

I'm pretty pleased with the new range as having just purchased a very good condition R500 I can only see it increasing in value.

I am considering chopping in my Lotus Exige 240 to buy a Caterham, and looked at new. However I am not that impressed with the cost of the spec I built up. So reckon If i do move, it will be a used Caterham, R400.

I bought a Supersport 140 new in 2012 for a little over £27k including a few options ..... have had at look the new price lists and a new 270 with the same spec is getting on for £31k - yikes! Things like carbon-vinyl half-doors which came as standard with my car are now a £300 option frown

Got to be good news for existing owners.

I'm surprised by all the talk of prices going up, I thought they'd actually come down if anything on a like for like spec because more was included.

Way back in 2003 I paid £31k for my R400 with a few options on it, that's £44k in todays money.

A new 420 R with the same spec on it comes to £37,250

In a sense yes ; when I bought my R400 7years ago the shock was how the price kept increasing with self indulgent luxuries like ..err.. paint and windscreen etc. But having paid £X for it the value is still probably 75% of X and for nearly 40k miles of fun it's worth it. Actually it's probably worth about £1.50 as I am that rare animal , somebody who drives his car more than 1000miles per annum . Plenty of others do of course but it's shocking how few miles many Sevens get driven.
