I would buy a nice private R400d just as soon as an R500 but there are none of either model for sale. I would have thought there would be at least a few around but the only 2 400's are in Sevens and Classics and firstly they are over priced and secondly they are SV's.

I value a car at what I can expect to sell it for privately and that's what I want to buy it at.

If I did buy one of Caterhams R500's at 36000 and I decided to change it I would be expecting to loose 4-5000 to sell privately. Its not being cheap its having some sense not to buy from a dealer.

At the moment Caterham have lots of cars but they are overpriced. They are controlling the price of second hand cars to a large extent As a previous poster stated.

I love their cars but really where is the 40k in a new 420r? Add up the value of the parts and I guarantee it won't come to what they charge. That's why you can buy a basic starter kit and source all the bits to build a 420r for about 30k but it will always be worth far less than the 'real thing'
Overpriced for you maybe but Caterham have plenty of people who are after R400/R500 cars and they can't get the supply. What you may be willing to pay so you won't lose a few grand come time to change is not how others see it.

Caterham have kept residuals high for as long as I can remember-up to you I you can/want to pay the entry price. Personally I don't see a private R500 sale being much less than a dealer sticker price. A couple thousand maybe but at this level, is it really a deal breaker?

Caterham prices have strengthened in the past few years as have Lotus. Saying that, these prices have gone up by a few grand, not like stuff in the Porsche world. As for controlling the market, how does £375k for a 4.0RS sound?

This R400 looks nice to me. Respray looks top notch as well. Have you enquired?

It's still at a dealership but looks slightly better priced than some of Caterhams stuff.
I emailed them last week asking about it but never got a reply (I work night shift so sometimes calling is not possible) but to be honest its way over priced, my last one was a similar spec and colour though it was 07 and I bought and sold it for nearly £10000 less.
