Good morning everybody,

I am the owner of a SV175 that has a leaking rear brake caliper. It has the standard spec. The problem is that Caterham only sells the complete caliper and I am unable to find who is the manufacturer to find a repair kit. The seal has deteriorated but the rest of the caliper is ok.

Anyone here who may cast some light?

Much appreciated!!

For info (and possibly not relevant to your car) there was a batch of calipers that were supplied on new cars and self-build that leaked. Both mine failed soon after I got the car and I believe there was a recall. As far as I could tell, it was machining fault, so replacing the seals may not work. Speak to Caterahm, they may replace yours if your car is one affected with this problem.

Have you tried contacting Bigg Red?

http://www.biggred.co.uk/

I needed a piston seal kit for my Megane 250 - which wasn't listed on their site, but after measuring and sending photos they were able to send me the correct kit which has been fitted ever since. Much like Caterham, Renault would only sell me new calipers (even when they were 4-pot Brembos - hardly cheap to replace!).

First of all thank you for your your replies.

I can buy a new caliper at Caterham but I think it is a waste of money when the only broken part is a kind of rubber seal.

I have checked the call and according to the VIN list my car is not affected.

If they are Ford calipers, can I go to a Ford dealer and ask for a repair kit? My problem is that I cannot identify the caliper manufacturer...

Thanks!

Did you try sending details and photos to Bigg Red? I'd be very surprised if they didn't sell a repair kit for the caliper. A kit for my Brembos only cost £40. They're probably a lot cheaper than Ford and I'm sure they'll be able to help you identify the caliper.

Bigg Red do indeed do seal kits. Just call them.
