i know these are only rumours at this stage, but if this is true you have to wonder what is going on at CC?

As I posted elsewhere CC needs to be taken over by a wealthy car loving benefactor.
The current owner is a bling lover and it won't end well whilst he's still at the helm.

More than rumour, redundancies in October according to Blatchat from someone who was at Cat Midlands today.

From whom? It is possible, I guess, that Ansar has executed a volte face, but I'd imagine they are totally focussed on Zenos for the foreseeable.

I heard someone else had spoken to Fernandes about making a serious offer and (naturally) the asking price shot up. Shame, cos the whole plan had some nice synergies and the staff plans made good sense too.

Been keeping an eye on their pre-owned stock list myself, doesn't update very often, but just getting a feel for what their prices are like. Have noticed in the last few days that most of the Midlands stock is now being listed under South.

The stock levels of used cars has been reducing at both locations recently, and yes I notice they are now showing only 5 cars, not including the ones shown as sold at the Midlands site.

There's one in particular, the Orange R500K that seems to have swapped over from the Midlands location to the South, I only noticed as I've got a 1 day hire booked at the Midlands office in July and thought I'd take a look at it whilst I was there. Of course there's the chance that someone has requested to see it at the other location and they've shipped it down, but it certainly seems like a bit of a coincidence given the other goings-on.

Been confirmed to me by Doug Parker. Will be fully closed in October but he is finishing tomorrow.

Not good as far as I am concerned, my dealing with Midlands were better than Dartford though I didn't have much to do with South. Doug and the others at Earl Shilton always had the right answers and help for me.

I suspect Mic is being sensible and declining to comment!!

Of course he stands to get more future trade at AA too!! wink

Seriously though i do wonder if CC have thought this through, the more things that make it harder to buy are just extra excuses people will come up with to procrastinate and therefore not buy.

I like to think i am a good and loyal CC customer, but even i can't be bothered to get in my car and drive all the way from the midlands to Crawley to discuss buying a new car.

Also if they even bothered picking up the phone at the Crawley Showroom it might encourage buyers who might be on the edge of a decision, sadly they don't seem to bother, when calling them to get a price for a trade in on my R500, i called three times during a normal weekday, only to get the answerphone each time.

I know serious buyers would keep ringing, but thats a big turn off for me!!

Perhaps they can still sell more new cars in the UK than they can make with only Caterham South?

Perhaps the resulting lower costs make the business a better sale proposition?

Only as long as the lower costs aren't at the cost of a loss of business. Are we to assume that midlands wasn't generating any revenue or that it would be easily transferable to Crawley?

The maths might work out quite easily.
If they can sell more new cars than they can make then no loss.
I bet the "extra" sales of used cars from midlands (plus other work) is less than the cost of running the operation there.
Just guesswork though.

This may explain why the customer service can be so poor. I think I'll hold off buying one for a while.

You may well be right Bert. It did seem to me over the past couple of months and when I went over there, that they kept themselves busy, so they should have been making a contribution. However, they have quite large site and buildings, which may be expensive to run. (And potentially quite lucrative to sell?)

It seems Caterham have just opened a new Dubai setup.

http://www.fleetpoint.org/top-news/caterham-cars-l...

They export quite a lot to China/ Japan I believe? There is a setup in Victoria, Australia, but you can't buy in kit form and I don't think there are many Caterham's in Australia. You'd probably still have fingers left for counting.

A few members pop up on here from Europe. How does America fare for the Caterham? I see there is a California forum.

At £60,000 for a 485 with no options, I don't think they're going to start flying out the door any time soon either...

I believe it shares a forecourt with Lotus, Fiat, Alfa and Morgan. Not quite worth a showroom of it's own.
