'High mileage' K at Woodcote
Discussion
Hello all
Woodcote have a 1400 K-Series, in red, for sale. The mileage is around 65k, but the price is appealing to me as it seems to be the cheapest K car out there. I know the car in question was briefly mentioned on another thread here (and it soon became a bit of an argument over whether or not a car of that mileage was a good or bad idea), but I was wondering what the received wisdon might be on it?
I would be doing less than 5k miles per year, so I wouldn't be adding too much to it.

Wouldn't hesitate if it was priced accordingly.
With that in mind, on this car and any older Caterham it'll be worth very closely inspecting the de-dion tube and wishbones for corrosion and cracking, as I say this has more to do with age and environment than mileage.
Of course if you only plan to keep the car for a short period you might find it harder to sell at the end due to the mileage stigma.

Thanks for the replies.
On a related note, does anyone have any experience of comparing a 1.4k supersport (128bhp) with a 1.6k roadsport (120bhp)? I know there's only a nominal power difference, but I assume the 1.4 is more revvy while the 1.6 is a bit torquier? Does the 1.4 really need a six speed box in order to perform well?

I can't help with the comparison, but on the box front, Caterham invented the 6-spd when they had the 1400k. I'm a fan of the 6-spd anyway, but having driven the 1400ss some, I wouldnt have one without. On a related note, does anyone have any experience of comparing a 1.4k supersport (128bhp) with a 1.6k roadsport (120bhp)? Indeed - mine effectively had 3 gears - 2nd-4th and brisk progress meant 2 and 3 only. Fist is stupidly low and fifth stupidly high- high enough to have to change down on motorway inclines . The 1.4KSS engine is just a gem, and makes a wonderful noise- the best of any Seven I have driven . It has no power below 4k, a bit of of go between 4 and 5k but over the last 2.5k it just screams
