Looks great, fingers crossed the DVLA are on the ball.

Had word this morning that mine failed the IVA yesterday as it was 1.6db over the limit. Caterham are on to it and delivery is still scheduled for the 26th, whether I get to drive it straightaway or not is a different question!

I'm sure cc will get it sorted for you on the IVA.

I called DVLA today, as it's been two weeks since I submitted my IVA and registration paperwork.

I was told it has not been started yet, and to call back on Monday to find out the status.

It's looking more like 3-4 weeks from submission to V5 being sent out sadly.

Looks great. I just find it frustrating that with current systems you now have to wait for the V5. I drove mine from South Yorkshire to Derby for the SVA then to Nottingham DVLA office to register my Superlight back in 2002. Phoned a friend with the registration number who had plates made and ready to fit on my return in the afternoon.

Looks great, do people not put 3/4 plates on them these days?
Yes indeed I will be getting and fitting a more appropriate sized plate in the future.

As has been said, Bookatrack will only supply legal sized plates as they can't supply illegal ones to a customers new car.

I shall also fit my large heavy duty Velcro to the front plate so it can easily be removed for track days etc.

No need to get a new illegal plate.
You only need 11mm space at the sides to meets the regulations.

Take off the plate, mark it so you have just enough excess, cut the backing with a sharp knife, hacksaw the excess off and the sand a bevel on the edge to tidy it up.

You will then have a completely legal plate that is narrower than the nose smile

I did do exactly that on my previous R500, and it was ok, but still looked too large.

I think that I will go with the 3/4 plate as before, but I might trim the rear plate as you suggested too!,

Nigel, have you weighed it or do you have plans to do so? Just curiosity on my part.

Nope not yet, when it's settled in a bit, I will be taking it over to BaT for a flat floor set up, so will have the corner weights and all up weight then too.

I suspect mine won't be under 500 kilos, as I have the weather equipment fitted, so the wipers etc will still be there, but the screen is now off and the carbon aero in its place.

Nice to see BaT doing a proper handover ceremony - unlike the bloody shower who comprised much of Caterham Midlands (not all- there were a couple of exceptions). My new R400 pickup was 'here's the keys , we can maybe find a handbook somewhere and by the way the tank's empty '. The first bit fell off on the way home and my Stack speedo read several hundred mph in 30 limits... Hugely underwhelmed - but that was 9 years ago and my car is going strong - or at least it was until it expired in Scotland yesterday with a leaking fuel tank and is currently on a truck...

The whole experience at baT was of a much more professional organisation than Caterham Midlands ever were.

The last car I bought and collected from Midlands was my R500 back in 2011, Nick Potter was. Still there then but managed to be absent when I collected my car.

As a result some parts were missing, and they almost forgot my interchangeable aeroscreen.

So far BaT has been great, looking forwards to much more great service from them in the near future.

How does it drive? Does the engine rev as sweetly as the old K supersport?
Somebody just asked exactly the same question on blatchat, here's my response.

As it has almost exactly 50% of the power of my previous R500, you would expect that it feels underpowered, however that does not seem to be the case.

I not exactly taking extra care with the first 1000 miles, but I am also not revving it fully to its limit, so have not found the true top end power of the engine.

The whole car feels so very different from my R500, but as you say it must be because that power is more useable, because it's incredible fun.

For some reason I seem to flick through the gears very quickly, and I am soon up,into licence loosing territory, but the car seems alive and makes light work of my usual Local B roads, that I know so well for my cross country blats.

Because of the way you use the gears, and the way the car feels like it wants to rev and stay within a certain part of the power band, I find my self flicking up,and down the box, using 2nd, 3rd and 4th a lot more than usual, and that process of quick rapid changes up and down the box is a one of the great joys of driving a car like this.

So far I am very very happy with my new Superlight, and we are both only at the start of our adventures together!

I was down at Caterham South last week and saw a Superlight 20 in blue awaiting collection - does anyone know what exact shade of blue this was?!

There's only one Superlight Twenty that's been painted. In Blue, and that's james Mortimers car.

Sorry I'm not sure what blue paint colour name it is, but it's a fairly common blue that a lot of Caterhams are painted in.
