Bought a Superlight some weeks ago, ear to ear fun machine. However have now started to tinker with and tidy some bits. There are two breather outlets on the camcover that have been blocked off (see photo), one that presumably goes to the lower throttle body (also blanked off) the other where please ?
However it has a dry sump and I wondered if this blanking was part of that setup ??
Also whilst on the subject of dry sump, the oil dipstick is obviously in the cylindrical tower at the rear of the engine, but what is the red container on the bulkhead with a sight glass (see photo), plumbed between the tower and the overflow bottle ??

Thanks everso

I believe this was the setup that Caterham did on their Dry Sumped cars. It's the same on my R500. Lots of discussion on the benefits or not in the early archives of Blatchat.

Red tank is a catch tank for the breather system. It looks to me like they have blocked off the breathers from the rocker cover and just using the crankcase breather and a breather from the dry sump tank.

The sight glass is to see how much oil has settled in the catch tank as it may need emptying from time to time.

Similar setup to mine, though mine vents from the oil cap and the crankcase. The pipe at the bottom of mine runs back to the sump so no need to empty it.

Thanks, that sounds logical. The 2nd pipe from the red tank goes to an overflow bottle at low level. Just a pity that the blanked off stubs with jubilee clips look a bit unsightly.
