I think Seven owners, as part of man maths self delusion, invariably exaggerate the value of secondhand Sevens. When I sold my first Seven the consensus was ask 12 and take 11. After weeks of time wasters it sold for 8- good car too. Of course I applied man maths to the 25 I had to find for the new one .....investment innit ?
Told you so- sorry.Sevens are rarely, if ever ,worth what we think they should be and - perish the thought - if they have got any miles on they are worth even less. Still better than almost anything else though. coppice said:

The mileage thing is a pain, a well used higher mileage new car is almost always more reliable than a low mileage hardly ever driven older one, and yet people fall over themselves trying to buy cars with virtually no miles.I've given up on considering the value of my modestly specified Seven, I'm going to wear it out myself, as I can't see the point of keep it perfect for someone else to drive in the future
Me too - on my second- first did 60k +miles without serious issue and second 40k from new in 07 . My idea of fun is not polishing a Seven to within an inch of its life and keeping the miles down to justify spending a fortune on an ugly little car which just happens to be sublime to drive .
The last two post reflect my views exactly. (Apart from the ugly bit..).
If I thought about adding mikes to my cat too much I wouldn't just jump into it on a sunny evening and drive miles down the lanes for no reason except enjoyment.
As for values...I visited Catehams showroom last weekend, selection of cars from 10,995 to above 50,000, similar to S&C in range.
Whilst I find it hard to believe a 50 grand Cat is 5 times more fun than a 10 grand one, each to their own, but I'd be absolutely happy to own the cheapest one and all points in between.
Depreciation? I'll worry about that in oooooh about 25 years time... Maybe!

Really? where is the evidence that a low milage car used irregularly is less reliable? If a car is well maintained millage and use will probably be irrelevant. I have a low milage 10 year old Caterham and its more reliable then the BMW's I have owned.Toaster said:

If it's chassis damage and it goes back to Arch to be repaired it wouldn't put me off.
+1 that chassis would come back from Arch like newWhen I came to sell it, was utter ste I had to put up with from prospective buyers. When I eventually sold it, it was on the proviso that I had it inspected by Autolign to get it to "condition inspected" from Cat D. When they saw it they said it was mad inspecting it with the new chassis! Hey ho, strange old world.

Just thought I'd update to say that with my advert on here now expired, I received almost no interest in my car, apart from a couple of time-wasters and a few scammers.
I thought that sub-£10k for a K-series car in decent condition would have meant that someone would have at least have come to look at it, but it seems that maybe these cars don't sell as easily as has been suggested.
Sorry if it sounds like I'm moaning, but I just wanted to offer a flip side to the 'you won't have any trouble selling a Se7en' argument.
I'm going to keep it over the winter now and probably advertise in the spring (for more money!). Maybe better weather will make a difference.

Just a thought, but I have found PH classifieds to be very poor recently. Did you advertise elsewhere as well?
Bert
PH also put it on the Classic & Sportscar site, but I only got a scammer from there.Bert
The thing is, when I was looking to buy I only used PH as it had the best range of Se7ens available. Autotrader only had about 3 cars - and always the same 3!

Hi
I am considering dipping my toe back into Caterham ownership. Previously owned a 1998 ex race Roadsport A which had Supersport, 6 speed and LSD, so a good spec despite being a little cosmetically rough around the edges. This was a great introduction to 7 ownership and reasonable money with cars of that spec fetching around £10k back then. It seems the market has moved on significantly in that time, i had budgeted about £15k to get something of similar spec but maybe with Jenveys & Emerald, but looks like thats over my budget. Dont mind if not cosmetically perfect as will be using on track etc but seems a real lack of cars with the spec for that money? Has the market moved that much?
