I have had my cars identity stolen, I cant go to far into detail as the police and dvla are currently working on it, but somebody has managed to apply for the v5 for my car and once received they have changed the colour, engine, engine number and placed a private number on it to try and hide its identity, i cant use my car now until its sorted, I have found out who it is and what the other car is and its totaly wrong, I have tried to contact him to resolve the situation but no reply, I can give a basic description of the car it may be a stolen car using my details, it may be a damaged repairable with no id or he may of told his insurance company that his car was stolen and he hid it under my cars id I just dont know yet, its a polished body with carbon fibre nose, front cycle wings and rear wings, lowered floors, solid rear axle with caliper conversion, red interior trim panels, carbon around gear stick tunnel area, 1.6 zetec fuel injection with large alloy radiator, black super 7 badge on nose, he changed the details as soon as he recieved the new v5, certainly a lot to change in a week, then there's the caterham chassis he sold on ebay about the same time, if you have bought that chassis i hope it's not from a stolen car.

I can't see anyone get away with this, just changing the engine number on my last Caterham was a pain. I had to supply evidence of supply etc.

Good luck.

Sounds like an idiot, even a cursory investigation will reveal the car's history. And why should you have your's off the road? You've done nothing wrong, he's the one with the problem if you're parked side by side.

I cant use mine as he has placed a private plate onto my chassis number/v5, somebody told me to get a new set of plates showing the private reg and find the nearest speed camera.

Surely it's their fault then and they should rectify it?

This is unbelievable, surely the DVLA computers should pick up on this as suspicious, particularly as there must have been a change of address all at the same time!

I've been on the phone with dvla, my question to them was so somebody can apply for a v5 in there name and on arrival they can change the colour, engine cc, engine number and transfer a personnel reg number all at the same time and you don't think twice about it, answer that's correct sir, even the police cant believe it, the police went round to check the car and because the reg number and chassis plate number matched the v5 they walked, of course they match his ringed the car, I feel like banging my head against a wall.

'This document is not proof of ownership'. Yeah, righto.

God bless the DVLA.

Not 100% sure on the race series but it shouldn't be too hard to find out i'm sure.

I take it the registration 'ALEX' is not the ID of the stolen car? wink

Given that in the pic the car has a roll over bar and not a cage, I doubt it circuit races in anything - but may do sprinting or similar.

Sounds like a mix-up to me rather than someone trying to commit a crime / scam.

Ranting about it on a forum certainly isn't going to get it fixed though, and will only alienate you from the other party who is involved in the mix-up. Remember the Caterham community is relatively small.

Let the DVLA handle it and just get out and enjoy your car. No reason why you cant drive it.

Don't the DVLA write to the last address they had for the keeper to check the request is valid?

Wonder if the OP has moved and not told DVLA, or got their letter but ignored it.
