About to go for first proper blast of the year in my R400 and weather is so nice I'm debating aeroscreen or windscreen...

In the past I've always just gone windscreen for road, aeroscreen only for track (so wearing a helmet), but thinking I might see what aeroscreen and sun glasses is like today...

What do others do? Or do you chop and change?

Aero, ballistic rated goggles and decent earplugs (for the last 65,000 miles)

Personally if going aero screen I'd wear an open face helmet on the road. You look a berk but ??? mph bugs, let alone stones are very hard. 0

Mine refuses the screen to be fitted at all - even in all weather and for european touring!

Was out in mine for a couple of hours yesterday and it was the first time this year I wasn't wearing a helmet. It's so much more exhilarating without it smile

I can't recommend aeroscreen enough, transformed my whole experience. Obviously the importance of good shatterproof glasses/goggles can not be overstated.

And honestly, the rocks and bees don't hurt THAT bad biggrin Just avoid driving behind or near any lorries. On the other hand, the rain may hurt quite a bit and completely ruin the visibility, so I can't entirely avoid using the helmet once in a while.

I don't see any gain from an open face helmet, though. If anything, it's only the face I'd want covered!

Put my (brooklands style) aero-screen on Saturday since it was so nice (Yup, my fault it rained Sunday morning :-)

With regards above advice- surely an Open Face helmet in this scenario is about as much use as a chocolate tea pot, ideally need just a face shield as a FF Car helmet feels overkill, does such a thing exist?

First impressions-
1. How is this legal? So fun/silly.
2. They whistle rather annoyingly above 10mph, above 40mph makes no difference due to induction roar :-)
3. Half Tonneau beautifully conceals fuel gauge
4. Half door is brilliant though
5. Went for Woolly Hat, ballistic goggles and bluff- bloody hot in the sun even at Warp speed

Most interesting was performance, didn't have the chance to go "quickly" but noticeably less aero braking effect when you lift off- actually had to use the brakes for a change :-) Usually can back off and the car slows so much people have asked if my brakes lights are out, with the aero screen its seems to run on alot more.

Lastly- very easy to swap, took maybe 20minutes, 10 of those labelling the heated screen wires. Although previous owner had removed the under dash side trim which made it easier.

I've been Aero for some 18 years...
Decent eye wear, and a beanie/buff when cold/wet.
Never use a bash-had - just not needed, as some 150K miles with no issues in those 18 years proves.

How high are those screens? They don't look much lower than a regular screen and surely a lot higher than an Aeroscreen?

I mean with a visor!!!
OF has the big advantage over FF that it's
easier to talk to your passengers. I used one for 10k miles.

They are only about 6" tall but normally raked back, Much much smaller than the windscreen, maybe alittle taller than one of those plastic lips but in no way massive.

FWIW When they are high enough to deflect the air over you, the driver is still looking over them.

I'm wondering why I brought a hood for my 7. Since going aero, the doors, screen and hood have been in the back of the garage forgotten .

I swing both ways... on this topic.

Aero for sunny track days and occasional road. Windscreen for general road use. Why worry about choosing when you can have both!
