Ok, so was out the other night, engine only just warmed (so been taking it easy) and I notice the oil pressure gauge is fluctuating back and forth a few mm, carried on, then as oil warms the pressure drops. It's barely out of the red at idle and only just hitting 2 bar with throttle, needle still wavering. Pull over and check oil level and it's barely above min, but no leaks so poodle home assuming standard gauge sensor is shot. Topped up oil when I got home, didn't help pressure reading so called it a night.

Fitted new sensor today and now I'm getting 6 bar cold and even once warm idle is 3 bar, and warm with revs is still 6 bar!! I've earthed the guage and it only just makes it to 8!

I overfilled it slightly the other night so drained a bit of oil out but the readings are still the same!

So do I just ignore the numbers and just use theses readings a s the new norm, assuming the sensor/guage combo is just inaccurate. Or should I be more concerned? I can't think what damage I could have done even with low pressure/level that would cause too much oil pressure 48hrs later?!?

It's a wet sump, stock 1.6k.

Any thoughts, or suggestions? Don't really want a mechanical guage.

It would seem a backqward step to fit a mechanical gauge however after seeing the pressure drop to dangerously low levels I changed mine to mechanical, it was the last thing I wanted to do but the improvements in the readings gave me back peace of mind and was an easy retrofit.

Thanks freebee, to be honest my reason for keeping the standard guage is purely aesthetic, that and the fact I've now spent near £50 on the sender!

I'm not too fussed about the gauges accuracy in pure numbers term, but at least be nice to know I can trust it even if over reading!

It's due an oil and sump foam change, so I'll do that just rule out any other issues, and see how it goes!
