Hi all,

Was hoping someone can help with a bit of a dilemma.

Getting close to be in a position to purchase a weekend toy (will be used only at weekends and for about 6 trackdays a year).

My budget will get me an early 2000's R300 or a later sigma super sport (2012ish). Question is, what one do I go for? I know an R300 will hold its value better, but it's 10 years older and I like the idea of a newer car, as in there should be less to maintain.

Anyone been in the same situation before?

Thanks

I should add that I wouldn't be able to trailer the car, so will need to be able to drive to track days, some of which will be in France

You need to drive both engines and see what you prefer.

I started in a Sigma 150 and now have a R400K. They drive completely different around the the track, the K series loves to be revved to get it in its sweet spot where as the Sigma isn't so keen to rev.

As with any Caterham buy on condition and not age. A car 10 years older that has been well maintained can give you less issues then a new low maintained car.

I have a 2003 k series supersport r (so basically an R300!).

I use the car on the road, and will be driving it to/from sprint and hillclimb events.

Buy on condition not age is my advice.

I was looking at similar to you and wondered about stretching to newer car but this car is in better condition that all others I looked at.

When buying cars I always think,"that will be enough power" but having had this car a while now I am glad I never went for a lower powered newer alternative.

The 6 speed box makes the car for me so would've missed that I think.
